Squirrelly

I have a 2012 2SS with 53,000 miles. In the last 3 months I have put new tires (p-zeros) new rotors (OEM) brake pads (Brembo). I had a 4 wheel alignment done also. While driving home this morning from work, I was having a little fun by myself on the road. I started to brake a little hard because, I was going around 85 and wanted to slow back down to the speed limit. When I hit the brakes, the back end got real squirrelly on me. I’m on a smooth 4 lane road by myself dry etc. It only does it at faster speeds and hard braking. High speeds and braking normally, the rear end doesn't move around. It really caught me off guard. It was like stomping it from a stop with traction control off. Anybody have any ideas as what it could be?

Sounds like a bit of oversteer to me. Hitting the brakes hard at higher speeds causes the weight to shift forward more rapidly and loosen up the rear. That coupled with cool morning surface temps and summer tires, plus potentially 8-9 year old shocks can make things a little loose in the rear.

I’ll state the obvious; jack it up and check for any loose or worn out suspension pieces. If nothing loose from alignment bolts being left loose or just worn out then I’d bleed the brakes to make sure all corners are braking at the same time.

I wouldn’t think tires are the issue but check lug nut torque and rotors/wheels are all flush and secured by torquing lugs.
Good luck

Also depending on the rear camber and how many miles you have on the tires they might be a bit slick still. I find my car is loosey goosey with new rears until they break in a bit and gain a bigger contact patch from the bit of rear camber.

If it didn’t do it before and it’s doing it now, then I always go back over what was done.
You might benefit from many suspension upgrades but it shouldn’t make you feel scared of braking at 85mph. If the alignment is making it that way, get your money back or have them redo it until it’s correct or they point you to what part(s) are worn out.

Good luck

Wow, I have never had that happen. I would have the alignment checked for sure, it shouldn't do that badly, it might seem kinda loose as when the nose dives down the rear will raise a bit, but shouldn't be too bad. Also the summer tires could be an issue to add to it. Good luck.. Hope you get it resolved.

Sounds like you haven't put enough miles on those new tires to get all of the mold release agent scrubbed off.

You also changed brake pads. If they offer stronger bite than Chevy's OE pads, plan on teaching your right foot how to be smarter about modulating the braking than just choosing "easy-normal" or "hard" with nothing in between.

You could also use "threshold braking" until you get things figured out.

Maybe it’s just the tires. I went with all OEM everything, pads, rotors,

How many miles are on your Camaro. It’s just odd to have anything new to cause this. Try warmer temps, I hated the factory P zero tire because it was like driving on ice in cold temps. But it would act like ice at all speeds, not just braking and only in the rear. I’d still think just checking for worn or loose rearend suspension would be a good thing. If it’s all stock then the rearends do like to steer but not to a white knuckle.
Good luck and be careful as you troubleshoot.
