E-85

A friend of mine has a 12 mustang and a 19, both GT’s He wants me to change over to E-85. On his 12 he said that he had to get new injectors and a tune On his 19 just a tune My car is a 12 2SS with auto and 52,000 miles I’ve gotten a Dynosteve tune after installing my headers It’s awesome. What all is involved changing to E-85 and would it be worth it? Money and trouble wise?

Thanks for the information Just headers, Z28 cai NPP exhaust and a Dynosteve tune. That’s it as for performance mods

Wouldn't mess with it NA unless your 12:1 or higher on compression.

Camaro guys shouldn't take performance advice from Mustang guys. They have a hidden agenda. LOL.

There's nothing wrong with adding E85 to any engine. It will give you more power. The bottom line is any improvement is up to what the owner feels is cost acceptable for overall gains.

When I had my 16GT (N/A) I had E85. It only required an injector swap. I also had a flex fuel tune. It was only good for maybe 10 rwhp. Imo it doesn't seem cost effective for a N/A 5th gen.

How much power it adds depends on cylinder pressure and how aggressive your pump gas tune is. I gained 3rwhp on my stock compression build.

Yep as many have stated not worth it unless you are high compression or boosted.

Just for the sake of answering the original question about what's involved, as I understand it on a 2010-2015 you have to change fuel lines (E85 can damage our stock lines) and at a minimum boost the fuel pump output and I think the injectors because you need to run more liquid through the system to get the same air/fuel ratio. I seem to remember someone doing a data log and the fuel pump was maxed and possibly the injectors were near max duty cycle. That means if anything wore out you'd be real close to running a lean condition and potentially damaging the engine.

Also in the interest of clarity, if you look at an octane chart, 93 octane is all that's required up to 11.0:1 compression. Since the stock 10-15 engines have at most 10.7:1 (I believe this is true), the extra octane from E85 doesn't do very much (hence the 3HP increase Bo cited).

I have not ran E85, so I am not speaking from actual experience; only what I've read in my own research on the topic before also deciding to pass on it for now.

I’ve ran e85 for about 5 years now. No need to replace fuel lines. I already had a zl1 pump and id850 injectors. My pump started dropping fp in upper band around 500rwhp.

For E85 all you need while stock is the alcohol sensor. Once you start adding mods you’ll need to install bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump.

My stock pump after 80k miles wouldn’t hold pressure with E85. Got a ZL1 pump and also added 50lb injectors and now with full E85 my duty cycle is like 80-85%.

If you can get your alcohol mix between 30-50% that’s all you really need
