Gutted both primary and secondary stock cats

Has anybody just gutted both primary and secondary cats? I'm getting ready to install the ESC vortex along with a hp tuner tune by them to start with. Besides just turning off the secondary O2's what else is needed? Can I remove the secondary o2 sensors and install the wb I plan using to tune or is there something else it will cause by physically removing them? CA sells there cat delete for the primary for $399 and it looks I'll have to also cut and remove the secondary cats and install pipe for them. Why not just gut and leave in place? A little labor will save $500 plus and maintain the stock appearance.

Most people don't gut the stock cats cuz they are valuable. Depending on size/style and scrap prices they can go for up to hundreds each.

Any particular reason you're doing this? Not much power to be gained; maybe 10rwhp. The stock exhaust is capable up to 750ish rwhp.

Gutting both sets of cats will gain 10-15 to the wheels, well worth it to some. You will need to turn off about 20-26 codes for the rear O2 sensors so they dont trip the light. Make sure you flash the tune 1st before you fire up the car without the rear cats in place otherwise it could possibly still trip the code.

You may also need to clean the WOT tune up as well as the reduced back pressure will change the the A/F for the WOT part of the map.

usually when you gut cats the exhaust sounds like crap. never heard of anyone doing it on a modern Camaro. that's usually a high school mod so dont know what its going to sound like. not worth the risk. The scrap yard offered me $150 for the 2 cats off my 5th gen. didnt bother taking the 6th gens in.

Gutting loses power. Flows like turbulent crap.

I have CA Primary deletes and gutted secondaries - I get a lot of compliments on the sound

Didn’t do it for sound, switched to E85 & Meth Injection, was going to be an issue down the road if left in place (clogging)

I deleted my cats and get complements all the time on how my car sounds. She puts 520 to the ground. If you do it, i wouldn't use her as a daily driver. The gas smell can be a bit much. Personally i like it, adds that extra feeling of race car. Loud as F*&k.
