Do cat deletes cause smell inside the cabin?

For those running cat deletes or off road connection pipes with LT’s, does it smell inside the cabin especially when idling? I know they smell on the outside when I’m following someone with off road connections.

ssmike,

You may notice some smell inside the car if you idle for an extended period of time or if you have the air conditioning running on fresh air. If the exhaust is exiting all the way out the back of the car it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

If it becomes really noticeable I would check the car for exhaust leaks.

Kind regards,

I had long tubes on my 2012 SS years ago with no cats and it smelled in the cab. I looked for exhaust leaks, pulled the carpet up , looked for holes in the floor, even replaced my door seals. It never bothered me a awful lot personally, but drove my wife and anyone else that was in the car nuts. The stink is nature of the beast when you start removing cats. I ended up putting the Kooks Green Highflow Cats on it and that took care of the issue. That bieng said, I wont take the cats off another car I own unless it would be a track car or something like that.

With a good tune it should be minimal.

So the kit I bought only replaces the primary cats but the secondaries remain in line (stock pipes to axle). I wonder if that will help keep the smell down.

That is how my setup is...I can cold start in the garage , idle for a bit, and it doesn't stink on E85. Yes you can smell it but it's nothing like longtube headers with all 4 cats deleted. The smell is just a tick more noticeable then my daily.

E85 is less noticeable as it has a bit of sweet smell. When I run octane 93 and especially with additive booster it's pretty strong smell. All my cats are deleted tho. I have headers and stage 3 cam. But never smell it in the cabin with windows up

Thanks for all your comments! I actually sold the cat delete kit because I just don’t want to take a chance. I’ve decided to go with TSP headers with high flow cats. A little more work and money but I might as well just go all in if I’m gonna have to tune anyway.
