Mismatched paint between doors/fenders and bumper covers *New Car*

Hello all! I just picked up my 2020 Shock ZL1 last weekend. I couldn’t be more impressed with the car (my first ever sports car), however I do have a couple questions that might put things into perspective. I’ve noticed a distinct separation of color hues between any steel pieces of the body, mainly the doors and fenders, and the bumper covers front and back. Is this typical for “shock yellow” or is this common on most colors? It’s almost as if the bumper pieces were painted at a completely different facility with a slightly different color. Or is this common on all late model Camaros? What is the standard by which the dealer would decide upon to take action on, or say it is an acceptable flaw? Will post pics as soon as I get some sunny weather.

I know that paint can look slightly different when the part is either metallic or plastic.

But there's no reason that it would not match that way. They normally apply a primer to avoid this issue.

I'd bring it back to the dealer and raise the concern.

My car doesn't have mismatch at all. Yours shouldn't.

It could be that it was damaged in shipment and bumpers redone by the dealer then claimed off GM/carrier. This is a relatively common occurrence.
It is not disclosed often but should be. Try taking a picture under different light sources, sun, incandescent and fluorescent. You will be surprised.
I'm a yellow car fan and have lots of experience. The tint coats are the hardest to match.
I've had a repair painted 4 times to get a match. It seems 2 is minimum and often they just want to blend it in so you can't notice the mismatch so easily.

This is normal between plastic and steel, i have seen the from all car companies, some colors are more noticeable than others. Don't trip.

There were lot's of color variation issues between bumpers and body with certain 5th gen colors also...As noted, it's more noticeable with some colors more than others.

ssmofo is right, I've seen this as well, (dark) plastic and (lighter) metal tends not to look 100% the same after coating even when the paint is physically identical. Hard to tell without seeing the car in person, but if the mismatch is slight and not an eyesore to you, I'd probably let it go.

I have a 2020 with Satin Steel Gray Metallic paint and I've noticed something similar. The paint on my bumpers matches the rest, but it looks very uneven, kind of hazy. It almost looks like someone sprayed on some quick wax and didn't completely wipe it off. It might be that the metallic flakes didn't spray on evenly. The paint on the metal portions looks good and consistent.

I remember seeing somewhere that the plastic parts are painted separately from the rest of the car and installed later on the production line. That could explain the variation in your color and my uneven look.

When I get some free time one day, I'm planning on taking it into the dealer to see if it could fall under the warranty as a manufacturer defect. You might check into the same if the color is that far off.

Look above the headlamp. First photo is in the garage. Second is in the driveway.

These are the photos of the mismatched paint. Also, notice the touch up paint on the top of the bolts on the driver side fender mounts? The most forward driver side mount was also clearly bent at some point during assembly. Is this typical of GM to just touch up parts that are especially noticeable? I'm going to bring the car in for a 500 mile oil change in the next week or so and I will point out these items to the service and body shop managers, just to see where the dealership stands. Is this being OCD and picky, or am I getting a poor product.... Thanks again for any input or advice.

My car does not have any signs of mismatch between the hood/fenders/bumper, but blue may be easier to get right or less noticeable to subtle differences. If the pictures accurately depict how it looks in real life, I'd bring it in right away and see what the dealer can do. I wouldn't wait for the 500mi maintenance.

Yeah those colors are definitely off, the front bumper appears to be a shade darker than the fender and hood, like waaaaaay off in colors. I would definitely take it in and show them the pictures and show them in the light.

That paint touch up is weird... I don't have that on my car. Looks like a damaged car where they have repositioned the fenders and did a touch up to hide the fact that the paint on top of this bolt has been chipped off.

Call the dealer for sure.
