You can buy 100 octane fuel at California racetracks, but you can't pump it into a street car. It must be a full fledged race car that wont/can't be used on public roads. If you pump 100 into a gas can, it must be marked "for racing purposes only".

Well if history is any indicator, the Shelby GT350R will be more special in 30 to 40 years to most collectors.
Although, for me, any Shelby has lost it's luster now that Carrol is gone. Now it is just a name used to add a premium to a car designed by whoever. The 1LE still represents the orinal intent and stands on it's own merits. |

Of course the Shelby will be more special in a few decades but Im buying to enjoy now. These idiots that worry about resale value in 40 years wont even get to enjoy the car. |

So if last year is our guide. I believe we will get the final hot lap videos tomorrow from the Viper ACR, Jag F-Type SVR, Porsche 911 Carrera S, and Nissan GT-R. Thursday I think we might get either a video of the street testing or the full show discussing the competitors and choosing the winner. Then on Friday we will get the "Worlds Greatest Drag Race 6"
I also think it's worth noting that last year each of the 3 separate days of hot lap videos featured at least 1 of the podium finishers. If they were doing that again this year then I think day 1's podium finisher is the GT350R and Day 2's is our SS 1LE. I really think of the 4 cars run today he had less complaints about the 1LE than the others. I'm betting tomorrow's podium finisher would be the ACR. I'm predicting it now 1-2-3 finish for the Americans 1st Viper ACR 2nd Shelby GT350R 3rd Camaro SS 1LE

This would be sweet. It wasn't so long ago the the big 3 were synonymous with "junk". Now we have cars competing and winning on a track with world class supercars at a fraction of the price. It's awesome.

What is crazy to me is that the latest and greatest GT-R is only about 3/4 second quicker than the SS 1LE...

My friend bought a 2010 GT500, kept it wrapped in bubble wrap and cleaned it with a diaper (not literally), and now he can't find a buyer at $30k. Why? It only has 540HP. The next year, the GT500 went to 550HP. Then, by 2013, it went to 660HP. Who wants to pay over original cost for a car that you can buy for less brand new with more power? He though he was going to make money, but now he can't even sell it for a substantial loss. It's in perfect shape with no miles, and he has been trying to sell it for a year now. No one knows what Ford has up it's sleeve for the next generation GT350, or even if there will be one. But imagine if they bump up the HP from 526 to 550HP or something like that in a year or two. The "special" factor, will take a big hit. And with rumors of a 700HP+ (or even 800HP+) GT500, how "special" is the GT350 going to be? The fact that it's a track car, and it has a FPC engine, will help, but it all depends on what Ford does next. If they up their game, it will lower the price. If they give up, and stop making high HP cars, the price will go up. Bottom line, don't ever buy a new car hoping it will appreciate. Unless you are looking for a big tax write-off on your loss. |

And anything under a second is a drivers race on a track. Over 20 laps can you repeat that hot lap over and over? When you look at it like that it changes things. It may even take RP a few laps to repeat that number, or maybe beat it. Everypne seems to assume that this hot lap is every lap. It's not.

That's what's so silly about magazine racing in the 10ths of a second. Now 2 or 3 seconds apart. Forget it. That car is just faster.
