My brother-in-law sold his giant turd for $79K. All depends on your perspective I guess.

You would've like my buddy's 05 GTO. Mast heads, big cam, Fast 102, etc...made 525 rwhp. Only downside to the car was the weight. My 2000 Camaro SS was only a tick slower with around 450-460 rwhp.

The original GTOs are true collector cars. Highly sought after and always increasing in value. It’s the car that made John DeLorean legendary. Transformed the Pontiac division from just a step up from Chevy to GM’s performance division.

I've been in a strong LS2 GTO. Driven other stock cars. Knew a guy with a cammed/bolton 05 GTO. It made good power. I liked it.
Great seats/seating position, great steering wheel that wasn't getting funky with it's shape, great placement of the petals and shifter. There was a lot to like about them. Unfortunately while they looked clean, their style just didn't jump out at you as looking fast or bad arse the way other Pontiacs like a LS1 T/A WS6 or a G8. Also it didn't house a lot of tire in the wheelwells. |

He paid $25 for the car back in the mid-70s. The original owner was in the service and deployed overseas. His mother sold the car to get it off her property. My brother-in-law kept it in his barn and over the years bought a lot of NOS GM parts for it, such as new chrome bumpers. He did a lot of the restoration himself, including a great deal of research and snail mail requests for accurate Pontiac factory documentation. He then finished the job with a professional restorer, painter, and engine builder. The final professional restoration part wasn't cheap, but it was only a fraction of the selling price.
But yes, it was a big investment in terms of his time, and the fact that he had it taking up space for nearly 50 years.

Had a 2004 Phantom Black Metallic M6 GTO brand new when it first came out. Did a Magnaflow exhaust, B&M shifter, SLP ported TB, and Holden intake from Australia. I literally had to wait months for each part to come out as there wasn’t much available for it at launch. Cool car, probably should have kept it.

I bought a 2004 GTO M6 new and daily drove it for 11-1/2 years and +115,000 miles. I sold it for $9,800. I think I paid less than $28k IIRC
I kept it 100% stock and the engine was never open. It still had the original radiator, water pump, alternator, exhaust, etc. It was only at a dealer once for a gas cap recall. I replaced the clutch and rebuilt the entire suspension at 85,000 miles. I also replaced driver side window motor and door lock. Otherwise all it needed were regular consumables like oil, flushes, brakes and tires. It was an amazingly reliable and fun car that withstood eight harsh Wisconsin winter and three hot Atlanta summers. I lived both places during that time. This picture was taken in 2012

I bought a 2004 IBM new in October of 2004 (see avatar). Sold it in September of 16 when I ordered the C7. I know where it is and keep in touch with the owner. I've been wanting to buy it back. It was decently modified. I think the last time it was on the dyno it put down around 415 RWHP.

I remember when Pontiac first advertised the new GTOs back early 2002. I wanted one SOOO badly. I was around 19 at the time and just about to join the military. I ended up getting stationed over seas for a long time and never got around to owning one.
When Pontiac went out of business I was heart broken. The first car I ever bought with my own money was a red 1977 Grand Prix J and I loved the hell out of it. In fact, you could say my Camaro is its spiritual successor 😃
