Well I have never posted in this section so I want to say hello to everyone. I have always been in the ZL1 section reading there. I have read some of Ruby's post here and she seems to know just about everyone. Hello Ruby! So since I have now retired I guess I will start watching this section since I am over the hill now!

Welcome Bigtime53! Congratulations on your retirement! I’m about 3 to 4 years away from retirement. Please post often. We need to revive this thread!

I have noticed it has very few new threads so I will try and do my part. I do not know if the retirement thing is for me or not. I have done just about everything that needs to be done here at home now since I retired the first of May last year so I am thinking about getting a part time job somewhere. My wife is younger than me by 12 years so she has a way to go before we can travel some so I am going to have to do something. I guess it is a little late to become a movie star so I will have to settle for car salesman job or something close to home!

Becoming a Movie Star would require moving to California - LOL!!! My wife is 8 years younger than I am but she's never had a full time job. So when I'm able to retire we're ready to go....
Good luck on finding a part-time job. I'm sure you won't have much of a problem in this booming economy!

I hear that! I think I can be a little picky to! But fishing weather will be here soon so I may have to put finding a part time job on hold! At least till that is over then it might be to hot to get outside so I will wait till it cools off some then it will get to cold out! LOL. I might have to wait just a little longer to make up my mind what I really want to do.

Still counting down to retirement.......February 2022 is my projected date. I will then be 67. Need to hang out one year after 66 to collect SS along with my full pay. The light ant the end of the tunnel gets bigger!!!

Bigtime53 - Welcome to the old farts. Not retired here. Running my own business and have no family to pass it along. Therefore, going to have to keep working to feed my car habit. Not sure I could retire and not have a reason to get out of bed. I already fill your bored pain. John

I have not felt good for the last 4 days and I just believe I am bored stiff. I had my own business also and was planning on working till I was 70 then retire but business kinda sucked and I had a chance to get out so I sold it. Believe me I did not want to but I just did not see it getting any better. I owned 2 hotels and this town I live in has nothing going on [that is another story and it really gets me aggravated] and it just was not feasible to stay in it. I will find something to do soon |

Welcome Bigtime53.....
We just back last week from a cruise to the Caribbean on Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Sea out of Miami . Spent a few days prior at the inlaws at ST Petersburg before we left to go on the ship.. I did not want to get of as we had a great time , so much to do on and off of the ship. There was rock climbing , ice skating , 10 storey dry slide tube called the Abysis , water slides , flowrider , escape room , zip lining on the ship and great entertainment and food .. i think that i need a bigger pair of pants now lol.. On their island we did the single roller coaster ride through the bush where you control your speed , zip line over the ocean etc . I will give my wife credit here as she thought when she booked the zip line on the island , that she would be doing it sitting down, but no the one she signed up for was the one that your flying like an airplane .. She even said that she would do it again ...We were gone for almost 3 weeks , and it was so great that it is tough to get back to work .. We now need to see when we can go again . |

Hello 70rsZ28 That sounds like you had a good time. My wife and I have talked about going on one of the cruise ship deals but just have not yet. Some of our friends say the Alaska cruise is the one to go on. I guess we need to get it lined up to go at the end of may.

Welcome aboard Bigtime53. Good to see other old farts checking in too. I have been away for the last week in the Smokey Mts with my daughter. Got back Thursday then today went on a hike to a prehistoric Mississippian era settlement site. It was pretty chilly but we bundled up & did not get too cold. I'll post a few pics from both trips and a couple of my art work.
Retirement life is great. I have been doing some paintings & other art work. Art was my first major in college until I realized I could not support myself & my child very easily in that field. Having hobbies & things to keep you busy is key along with learning to enjoy chillin' & doing nothing sometimes AND that there is nothing wrong with that.

You just have to learn the back routes. We are not into the touristy stuff. We mostly try to avoid peak seasons whenever we go. Our annual timeshare condo week is always MLK week so we get groceries & go up the mountain & mostly stay put until after the weekend then the crowds have pretty much cleared out. We even learned a new back road to avoid the Pigeon Forge chaos this year by using GPS. We dressed in layers & never really got that cold & we did not try to do any long hikes.
