New Exhaust
Hello all! New here to these forums. Back in March I finally bought the car I've been wanting for a very long time. A 2018 Camaro SS! It's a 1SS without dual mode (NPP) exhaust. The stock exhaust is just okay. I want it to sound more like a muscle car though with a deeper note. I want to avoid drone. It's A8 and I've read someplace that it's the AFM that that creates the drone when it kicks into V4 mode. However, I'm not sure how true this is. I've been researching different exhaust manufacturers for some time now. I love the sound of the Flowmaster American Thunder axle-back, but I've heard that the drone is pretty bad. I like the Borla S-Type axle-back as well, but it's a bit pricey. I'm not a fan of the Corsa anything. Finally, I really like the sound of the AWE Touring Axle-back, at least from the way it sounds on YouTube, which I'm sure doesn't give a good representation of the actual sound produced.
My concern is that it is too loud. Does anyone out there have this system on their SS? My car is completely stock. I would just be adding the axle-back exhaust as the cat-back is not recommended because of the AFM valves on the automatics. Mark |

You can always get a AFM range device if you're worried about it. I did the secondary cat delete with borla x pipe and MBRP axle backs..sounds loud deep and mean ..no drone.

I love my AWE Touring catback. I literally get compliments on the sound and/or the look of the quad tips every time I drive it.
If you’re keeping all 4 of your cats, I can’t imagine it being too loud IMO.

Thanks. I will be keeping all cats since I live California and the CARB laws are ridiculous. I was also interested in the Range AFM Disabler. However, it’s not CARB compliant and I cannot order it directly from Range Technologies to ensure I get the latest firmware. I have to say that I dislike the whole V4 to V8 and back to V4 thing. At first I didn’t notice it, but now that I’m aware of it, I notice the change from V4 to V8 all the time.

I have it on my car and it is not too loud. It is a little loud on cold start up and wide open throttle but is has zero drone. PM me your number and I will send a few videos I have of my car on a dyno, startup and a run at the drag strip.

Lastly, did you do the install yourself? Is it pretty simple? |

Stock 2017 1 SS non NPP. A8 auto car other than the AWE axel back exhaust I have a K@N Filter and that is it. No drone when going from V4 to V8 mode just a little burp but it does not bother me at all. I had a Range AFM and sent it back because it made my car do weird stuff so I sent it back to Range for a full refund. I did the install myself in the driveway and it took me a little while because all I had was a hacksaw and did it by hand. It is a simple install.

Thank you! I think that’s the system I will order. All of the other ones are either too exotic sounding or they drone. This one sounds more like a muscle car than others in my opinion. And the company seems like they are pretty good. Did you get yours directly from the company? I was looking at ordering from elsewhere since the company charges shipping if ordering through them.

A few things I would note here. Do not go based off youtube sound clips, these exhausts sound a lot different in person. You should look through the subsections and see if people are willing to meet up and let you hear these exhausts first hand for yourself.
I'm not sure why you don't like Corsa but I think it's the best sound and definitely has no drone. that's just my .02 Last edited by Mov Ov3r; 09-18-2019 at 01:02 PM. Reason: Capitalization |
