New ZL1 for a supercar noob!

Hey everyone, new 2019 ZL1 owner here with what I am benevolently referring to as a midlife crisis, ha ha. But really, when 650 hp & 650 ft/lb torque is involved, with THAT suspension, I can't see this as being a crisis!

So I say noob because I haven't owned a "car" since my '91 MR2 turbo back in '94. Been into motorcycles, dirt or street my whole life, so I've had trucks ever since to haul the bikes around and everything. Track days on the Ape at Buttonwillow or standing on the pegs at 70 on the BRP flying through the Mojave desert, I was always down.

So enter my late 40's and the 'ol corpse is finally catching up to all the attempted suicides-by-adrenaline. More blown discs than you can count on a hand, knees, shoulders, whew, I have multiple surgeries coming up.

Long story short, I require a new adrenaline source! Coming up on 50 this year! As an engineer I did my research, mostly as a way to talk me out of getting a Hellcat. At 6'6" tall, the Hellcat is a comfy shiny attraction, who doesn't like shiny things? Honestly there' nothing more comfortable. But I also looked at the 911 Carrera S, Caddy CTS-V, Beemer M4, Mustang GT etc. Never thought I'd fit in the Camaro, hell I never thought I'd own one. Growing up in the 80's it was all guido-ey IROC-Z owners, excessive hair product, and then the dismal 90's Camaros, so I could never imagine this much of a well thought out supercar.... from the factory... with a WARRANTY??

A coworker recently got a ZL1, and he really knows his shee-ite about sports cars (from-and-to a mechanical engineer perspective, we think differently than most) explained all of the bang for the buck technology this thing has, I sat in his sled, and HOLY COW it fit! Like a glove! Pretty easy to get in and out of too, if you watch out for the achilles-tendon-fillet-knife they call a side skirt.

One test drive later, SOLD! 1,422 miles left to go for break-in and it's off to the track! Caaaaaaan't wait!

Look forward to absorbing all of your knowledge, and looking for some good track days in Central Florida if anyone has any info, thanks!

These are absolutely gorgeous cars. Kudos to GM.

Auto. My coworker is a manual purist and tried to convince me otherwise, but the 10 speed is so nice and crisp, and has gotten great reviews it seems pretty much across the board, even on the track. Plus I'm losing feeling in my feet!

Ha I had to clear the garage out! It's never seen anything but my motorcycles. The truck was nowhere close to fitting in there. Now the bikes are in the screen room, now that the boat is gone I have to pour a foundation and build a "shed" *cough cough* by the side of the house for the bikes.

Nice Summit white ZL1!!! My favorite color too but I recently bought a silver ice metallic used 2017 ZL1 for a real good price. Had 422 miles on it when I got it. I was looking for a white one but the SIM was there so I took it and didn’t look back. I’m sure you are enjoying yours just as much as I am enjoying mine!!

Congratulations ! I have been riding sports bikes for years, even a few track days, I still have them, and ride often, I have a old school car with a T56 magnum and a 6.0 motor, I often find myself on back roads pushing the chevelle, rowing thru the gears, 18 inch wheels, tires, and 4 wheel disc brakes. But I know the ZL1 is a great car, and $ it's the deal of the century, I'm getting one also !
Chevy good job, I bet if you look at the hard figures there are alot of new GM owners, and I'm going buy my 1st new product ever from gm.
