Lightbulb Gen 5's So Costly

Why does everything for the Gen 5 cost so damm much? Cam install and 2800 stall converter install, $5500.00 Does this sound correct?

With a cam in an L99, truly depending on what you have chosen to install, there are DoD deletions, possibly VVT deletions or augmentations, extra parts like lifters, phase limiters, valley covers, etc. These parts are on additions to the normal new cam, springs, retainers, and pushrods that would be done in an LS3.

You may have other optional parts like a timing chain, and timing chain dampner, trunion upgrades, etc that all are on the "extras" parts list but do add $$$ to the total.

I think with the increased labor of also dropping the tranny for the new converter, you are right at the going rate if a dyno tune is also included.

When I paid $400 bucks for my first mod which was a K@N cai intake. I knew I was in trouble.

???..... that sounds a bit high to me parts were aprox $2500 my guy does the labor for $1500 and then the tune is being done currently at JHR Performance in Mooresville, NC for $500 soo.... $4500? And that was with a complete DOD delete and install on a VVT4 Texas Speed cam may be able to get out a bit cheaper on a manual as all of that isn't necessary let me know if you'd like and I'll gladly connect you with him. My car runs excellent as a testament to his work.

Just noticed that you said stall so def not a manual still lmk if you'd like I can send plenty of video of the car idling and one video of it running on a not so great tune she held up so well I took it to a bad tuner then to the track ran a 7.8 not running worth a shit and now getting a real tune to crack into the 6s since it wouldn't even shift into 3rd before at WOT and didn't get all of the power possible/tuner turned VVT off so definitely held up great on a 150k mile motor.

Haha, I guess I'm desensitized.

I work at BMW and I keep thinking how CHEAP parts are for these cars!

I come from a supercharged fully modded FJ Cruiser and the offroad world, and I thought that was expensive, these gen 5 parts are killing my wallet and I've only had her for a few weeks lol

I know that! 5 Years ago I was a Mgr at a BMW/Porsche Dealership. Camaro parts are Pennies compared to those lines.

Let's not forget the pay back cost per dollar these motors out perform and OUT LAST many others...done properly....you know you DID purchase a performance car didn't you? based on my research cost's are equal to or less than many others, but then again I'm a gear head from waaayyyyy back and do all of my own wrenchin, so I don't factor/consider the labor $$$ which is significant....peace out...
