we have 100% so called free health care.
amazing social security system- never seen a single person living on the streets since i moved here 2005-
free schools
free university
amazing parental leave . basically between you you get 440 days parental leave on 80% of your salary untill the child hits 8 years old.
TBH most us dont complain as we all know we have one of the best healthcare and social care systems on the planet. and that's not cheap.
plus if you fall sick you will get 80% of your salary untill you are better.

The USA has too many free loaders for a system like that to work here.

In the US Sweden is held up as a sort of socialist light utopia. Because of government health care. They do not tell the facts as you describe with 50% taxation over $60,000...
They make it sound as though its just "Medicare for all"....
In fact we are probably going to get yelled at for speaking about such things here.
So much for freedom of speech too.
Where I live in NJ the average personal income is 90,000.
But thats padded by some truly high earners.
I can tell you as a skilled blue collar "essential" worker I dont make 90. The wife does. But combined approaching 180 does not buy a whole lot. We live in a 1600 Sq town house. Pay over $6,000 in taxes and fees.
2 more years or so before we "piss off" to Tennessee... or perhaps S.C......
That is if "they" dont crash everything giving us all the free stuff...
I've recently made the move and things appear to be much better here in TN. Very decent people for the most part, common sense is alive and kicking, traditional values respected. Oh and I'm paying 15x (yes, fifteen times) less property tax for a house similar to what we had in NJ, plus a nice piece of land. Heck, your $6k a year would've been a dream for me even up in Morris County. Come down south and join us, brother.

Your tax structure must have astronomical margins and/or heavily punish high earners. Such a system can only survive if freeloaders are penalized instead, hard, which isn't gonna happen because of PC, so, while I'm not well versed in EU affairs anymore, I'm pretty sure even without knowling the details it's being stretched to its limits and eroded.

Last time I went to Sweden was about two decades ago, and it looked and felt pretty good, by the way. Not sure about the present.

My wifes parents live in Portugal.
Their free health care results in getting up at 5am to go wait in line even though you have an appointment. And the best of all...... Both endoscopy and colonoscopy.... without anesthesia.... because thats deemed non essential.
Of course you can get what ever you want.... if you have the cash to pay.
Everything free Ive ever seen in my life has come with too high a cost. And my purpose in life has been to fund other peoples free stuff while I bust my ass.

Sweden seems a bit more sophisticated.... but thats why all the sub saharan africans have migrated to the frozen north....
Good bennies...

Drove a 500 mile C8 convertible 2LT that is listed for $120k. I liked it but not that much. I think C8s will sell around MSRP for a while though - they are just that good.

Did you get to do a 0-60? It is impressively freaky cool. But not 120K freaky cool.

I lived in Germany, 12 years ago, and had a tooth go bad on a Friday morning requiring an emergency root canal.

My coworkers that helped me find a dentist commented that it was fortunate that I had private insurance. Otherwise, I would have had no chance to get in quickly. Long waiting lines for those on public insurance.

Seems to me that...
- Free isn't fast.
- Free doesn't mean quality.
- Free isn't free because despite claims that the top 1% will pay, reality is the middle class tax rate goes up substantially. This is proven wherever "free" is the social model.

Free means you turn over self reliance and control to someone else. I can't trust another to change the oil in my car. Why would I want to depend on others to provide for me?

No NO no... go home yankee.

I kid. I moved from the peoples republic of Maryland to NC a bunch of years ago and never looked back.

The funny thing, I was in town when we first moved here and I was behind a pickup with this bumper sticker

"Go Home Yankee"

Quality and Speed - going to cost you
Speed and Price - going to be crap
Quality and Price - going to take a while
