You’ll end up trading the car, believe me. The ZL1 1LE was one of the worst automotive decisions I’ve made for a street car. I never “race” so why should I be punished like I’m in a F1 car? Plenty of fast cars in 2018 that are as fast as a ZL1 1LE without bursting a kidney on a freeway expansion joint.

Adding 200lbs to the trunk might work. Mine rides pretty nice on the way to the track when its all packed up with tools.

Almost 6,000 miles on mine.
^^^^ This, somewhat less harsh ride, little handling difference on the street, will not sandblast the sides of your Camaro with gravel and a little more forgiving in the rain. Save the stockers for the track. These are great street tires.

My wife also found the Z/28 a harsh ride but, still rode in it to cruise-in's. She commented the other day how much better the ZL1 rides and it is more comfortable.

My wife turned to me on our 1,400 mile drive from Detroit to Houston and mentioned what a comfortable ride the car was... then we hit some expansion joints and just laughed.

Ton of creature comforts in this track car that most don't have. Wouldn't have it any other way but then I purchased it for the track and not the street.

I commend you for your honesty. If someone does not track the car (a lot), just get a regular ZL1 and bolt on whatever components of the ZL1 1LE you want (grilles, dive planes, wheels, rear wing, etc.).

It's exactly why, like the 14/15 Z28, and now with the ZL1 1LE, there are more and more showing up with very low miles as used cars. I'm in my 50's. I had solid lift, no A/C "street" cars when I was younger and daily'd them. I was young and stupid then, now, just stupid, but, not that stupid.

With the spring rates SO much higher than the base FE4 suspension, and the dampening profiles on the DSSV's, there isn't much that is going to tone down that ride.

There's also coilovers w adjustable dampers.. so you can tune you pain threshold. Waiting on konis or beilsteins to see how much performance we are leaving on the table.

My guess is the stock suspension will be better for track.

However, for the OP this is the only answer. This or a regular ZL1. I do know on STis some folks went with Ohlins R&T coilovers to get a better ride. It'll probably be cheaper than buying a regular ZL1 and you'll get all the other 1LE stuff, the stock sus can be put back in if you or a future owner wants.

Driving around the bumps seems easier, but...

How do you drive around expansion joint that spans entire width highway ?

Unless you have one, and dont live around perfect pavement, you know ride sucks esp on stock tires, that sidewall is mostly made of concrete w few bricks tossed in.

I recommend getting some street tires. The stock Goodyear's have insanely stiff sidewalls and transmit so much vibration into the cabin. I ended up getting different tires and it helped the ride immensely. Granted I burned up my Goodyear's in three trackdays so I had an excuse to try a new tire on the factory wheels.

If only GM gave you some spring options with the DSSV shocks, it would be the best of both worlds.

As good as the MRC is, a true coilover or the DSSV shocks are still going to be better performing and have quicker damping control. I am sure GM could maintain the excellent damping of the DSSV shocks but give you a softer spring set for street use.

Having said that, I am throughly enjoying my SS 1LE with just the ZL1 1LE solid rear cradle bushing upgrade. The MRC does an amazing job on the street and only when you get to triple digit speeds and hit a bump mid corner with the suspension loaded up that you would you feel the difference compared to a coilover or the DSSV shocks. This is all assuming though that you do not actually track often.
