3530 for the 3.6L (RWD)

Assuming, of course, the 6th gen Camaro keeps the same wheelbase as the ATS, I think it's very possible we could see a manual 1SS that's lighter than the no-frills Mustang GT.
seems possible. Does anyone know what the LT-1 weighs compared to the 6 that is in the ATS?

Compare the CTS Vsport to the SS sedan. Pretty much the exact dimensions. Alpha platform vs Zeta. Weights are nearly identical.

Granted I don't know the weights of the drive train combos, but i figured they were close.

Here's a size comparison, in case you haven't seen this before: (and the LT1 is smaller than the 351, pictured!)

So how are you going to SHRINK a Stang when the bucket o' oats is that BIG? It was fine in Crown Vics 'n F-series trucks, but...
Oh I agree, OHC motors can be huge. I'd like to see cars shrink in size, but it wont happen. Only way for the weight to reduce would be the introduction of aluminum and other techniques.

I have had a hard time finding good numbers on the weight of the LT-1. However, what I have found suggest it doesn't weigh a whole lot more than the LFX V6 and a little less than the LS3. However, as someone pointed out before, that isn't where all the weight comes from. The V8s tend to be paired with beefier transmissions, brakes and differentials. I don't think the new 8 speed auto or 7 speed manuals will be lighter than the 6 speeds we have now. I HOPE I AM WRONG though.

Sidebar - Weights are the same. HP and torque are nearly identical (415/415 vs 420/430).

This is the classic example of Area Under The Curve.

The performance should be very close.

107.6 mph traps for the SS
111 mph traps for the CTS Vsport

That's a pretty big difference, and would normally mean ~40HP difference, not the 5 HP / 15 FT-LB shown on the brochure.

The V6 Turbo has more average HP. Effectively, like a NA V8 that reports 455+ HP (LT1).

This is probably why the V6 Turbo is probably not going into the next Camaro. The performance will match the LT1, but without the V8 sound.

I agree with that. I would also think that certain components of the chassis would have to be beefed up as well to handle the torque of a V-8 right?

Yes, but the weight difference of things like sway bars, struts, control arms are pretty small. Although, lots of small differences can add up.

Torque is what requires bigger axles, gears, motor mounts, driveshafts, etc.

I doubt the fully dressed V6 Turbo weighs much different than the LT1. The intercooler and turbos alone are perhaps 50lb.

LESS than the LS3? I'm shocked.

That's a lot of guess work on my part. I've done a lot of google searches trying to find something authoritative about the LT-1 weight. All I've seen is estimates and those are all over the place. DI adds some weight, but it looks like GM tried to shave weight everywhere they could.

LT1 actually weighs a few lb. MORE than LS3 (DI and extra tech), but not many. It does, however, weigh less than a TT-V6.

You are absolutely correct in stating that beefed-up other driveline components add further weight. As usual.

Do you have some links? Like I said, I have't found anything authoritative.

Internal GM Powertrain sources, but the difference is under 40 lb.

According to this article it comes in at 465lbs, which is about 30 lbs heavier then the LS3.
