Don't ever compare original 60s and 70s test times. You need to remember these times were done on horrible tires and stock factory timing that was usually set pretty low. That being said I still think you should have him fairly easy if he's stock, unless he's got a cam and headers and a good set of rubber he's getting smoked.

If he truely has a "stock 350" you should make him look slow.
I owned a "stock 350" Camaro back in the day and I thought it was fast at the time. But by today's standards, a V6 Camaro would beat me. But he might not really be "stock." |

im almost sure the 67 came with a 350 295 hp only in the ss model and 327 275 in the no ss and the 327 was the higher hp in the non ss the other was like 220 or something like that 327

Why do these threads end with nobody racing?
I think most people today just print all their mods on paper and then throw them down on a table like poke'mon cards to see who wins...what happened to racing?

a crate 350 stock specs???? thats still incredibly vague. Vortec 350? Aluminum headed fast burn 350? edelbrock crate 350?stock 1967 specs??
given his weight, to keep up with you he would only need roughly 325hp which is very easy to attain with that displacement, but will need extensive mods if he has the old iron crap heads. Since he doesnt even know what he has im just going to have to assume his car is a turd and not very fast. |

Forget motors. What rubber is he running. It's the tire that gives modern cars the advantage, the higher HP mostly serves to haul around all the extra weight.
That said I'm giving the edge to you.

How you get it to the ground will have a big impact on the result of the race.
But your not comparing apples to apples here either. Fairly stock 350 (under 350 hp) vs. a 426 HP camaro SS with traction control. Some 1960 and 1970 cars had low 1/4 mile times, true. But many of them had great times. But most of those you had to get into something with a big block. In a 1/4 mile race, I know my chevelle would spank my camaro every run. But then again, it isnt a 350 car either.

This would be race I'd like to see. Key factor pointed out is the '67 is running 4.10 gearing. If the RPM capability of the 350 crate motor is matched to that rear gearing and he's running rubber to hook up, the acceleration of that thing will surprise you.
Race him around a curve and you'll win for sure! |
