Poll: ZL1 interior styling
After tiring of hitting refresh on the forum, I took a trip to my local Chevy dealer.
My objective was to get a better sense of the ZL1 interior by examining the SS, a close ZL1 family member. Now I will say I may have been coddled of late by driving my Audi, but I was pretty disappointed with the Camaro interior. 640 horses cures many things, but I'm concerned that Chevy won't do enough to improve the ZL1 on the inside. Here are my list of gripes about the SS interior: 1. The gauges are rental car quality 2. Many crappy, hard plastics (I thought they had improved more) 3. The raised canopies over the gauges further limits visibility 4. Captain Obvious notes that visibility sucks 5. It's black everywhere. I hope I can get some color in the ZL1 6. The center screen is canted downward So... What do you think of the (potential) ZL1 interior? Take the poll and leave your hopes and gripes. Last edited by g3ngo; 06-02-2016 at 08:34 PM. Have you seen pics of the ZL1 interior? It's about as black as you can get except for the red seat belts with microsuede everywhere. I really like the looks of the new Recaros.

If the camaros you looked at were 2SS trims and the interior is THAT bad to you, I don't think you'll be buying a zl1 based on its interior. Based on the link provided, it looks like a 2SS with suede instead of leather, and recaros....suede of course. And that's fine with me, I like it!

Though they haven't put up the builds on the Chevy website for the ZL1, you can still go and use the configurator for an SS to give you an idea of what color options are available for the interior. Also, the stitching will have a standard color of Red...which enhances the interior better than white imo.

I think the previous ZL1 only had a black interior available. Not an expert, maybe others here would know. |

ALL ZL1's only come with a black interior with lots of suede. Red is the trim color. The new Gen. 6 ZL1 interior has a lot more red trim and it starts out with Recaro seats. Recaro seats did not make their appearance on 5th Gen. ZL1's until 2014.

WAY too much suede for my taste. Hopefully that'll be an option and won't be forced on us.
Same with the Recaros....I'd prefer they were an option. Recaros aren't particularly comfortable to my wide body. Neither of he above would be a deal-breaker for me though, andother than that, I like it!

I'm all for the adrenaline red interior if they offered that on the ZL1. All black is a bit subdued though exterior color controls that. I doubt I would want red in a yellow car. In that case all black seems more suitable.

The ZL1 interior:
What you see is what you get. And it's magnificent. Black Leather, Black/Dark Grey Suede everywhere, Red contrast stitching, red seatbelt (or black for some colors choices), full-size color DIC and center console screen, and Recaro bucket seats. All standard. The only real option might be the carbon fiber dash, if that makes production. |

If you are disappointed with this interior, you better stick with Audi. You should go check out a 5th gen Camaro, better yet the 2010-2011 model if you can. If you think this Camaro has cheap hard plastics, go sit in one of those.
GM made great improvements to the 6th gen, it's miles ahead of the 5th gen and I believe it's pretty nice quality at this price point. This isn't a BMW, and the price reflects that. M4 performance at nearly half the cost. When you buy a ZL1 you won't be getting a radically different interior, it's going to be more subtle changes. Most of the changes from the SS to the ZL1 will be reflected in the powertrain.

If you are going to be disappointed by an interior that doesn't match the quality of your Audi then stick with your Audi.

I could never understand how people do not realize what they are buying. Do some research. Do you want a muscle car or a import luxury queen for another 100k?
Let us compare and think about this. Closest thing to a ZL1 from Audi is the projected R10 with 610 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque for $191,000. I think there is at least 100k worth of room to make the body aluminum and the interior nicier. Performance wise I would still take the ZL1 with the shotty to the OP interior. Do you buy a ZL1 for the interior? F No! You buy it because it is a bad ass v8 with massive amounts of torque and hp! Buy the Zl1 Go get custom interior and then you can have your poser sports car. I will stick with my 1SS and the reason I bought a sports car. To Drive and enjoy the performance value. OP did say this is a place for gripes right? This is mine. |
