ZL1 street/drag setup
Sorry to say I sold my ZL and went bact to NA. I am am adding SS 1LE replicas to my LT1, but still want to enjoy drag racing without swapping wheels and tires.
With My ZL1 I had to buy a set of drag wheels to mount my DRs. But now Nitto has made (I think) a better traction solution, the NT555RII drag radial. With these tires you now have a right height DR that can go on the back on the stock wheels. I know that toyo r888rs were popular, but these tires seem like a more long lasting traction solution, not only at the dragstrip, but also on the street. Anyone try these yet? https://www.drivingline.com/articles...-the-nt555rii/

The 555R2s are the best street driven drag radial you can buy at the moment.

I currently have the 555R2 on my Hellcat. I’ve done a lot of research and heard good things about them so I figured I would try them. Other than the tires being fine in the rain and taking corners pretty good for what they are, I am kinda disappointed with them. I drag and roll race here and there and they do let me down at the track. Second gear 30 and 40 roll hits they still slip on my car and this is on a STOCK Hellcat. Guys at the track are gapping me with MT’s on a 30 and 40 roll hit so I might try MT’s next. Basically around 50 mph is where it will hook for me but I was hoping to hook a little less than 50 to be honest.
They seem to be a well-rounded tire and others have had better luck than I have. You may have luck with them too but I think it’s a matter of trying different tires finding the right one that suits your car best with good consistent grip that you can count on. A handful of people will say certain tires worked great for them and others may say something different. It’s all trial and error. Looking at reviews and hearing people’s experiences will give you a general idea. Nitto tires may last longer I’m sure but it’s probably the tradeoff with being less sticky then other tires that won’t last as long. Not trying to discourage you from trying them just sharing personal experience as yours might be different who knows. |

My R2's keep getting pushed back. Now Summit says they will arrive on 7/13. How about yours?
