"Illegal exhaust"

Third time in two months that I've been pulled over for "Illegal exhaust" on my car. I WISH THIS WAS THE CASE, OFFICERS. My car is shit-all stock.

This makes me worry about getting ANY exhaust work done. In each of the three stops, I was cruising under 40mph- and in one case, 17mph. I don't feel safe from these assholes known as the Palm Beach police department.

Anyway.. I'm legal if I retain cats on my planned exhaust setup, right (Kooks Headers, MBRP exhaust with cats)?

I think they just wanted to check out the car lol. I drive by cops in track mode with my exhaust setup all the time with no problem....

You cant keep the cats with Kooks headers. You either have to go catless or use their Green cats which may be legal in Florida anyways. I'd look in to it.

Some people are just dicks. You could file a complaint with the department, as they obviously don't even have a clue what they're supposed to be on the lookout for.

Seriously I have had cop’s come and pull up beside me and grin. I was pulled over once in the 2 years that I have had my car, it was for my tinted license plate holder. He gave me a warning and said nice car, I removed the tinted license plate holder.

Just my idle. Cold start thou, but it does kick down. GM hot cams sound better once they warm up

An excerpt
(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

You can modify your own exhaust and stay federally legal (emissions) but can not modify it to be louder than how originally equipped, or face getting a ticket.
Local municipalities could have had non-stop fartcan tickets years ago

...and since the local po po has the OP’s number... that exhaust money probably should be spent elsewhere... like maybe on a wrap to change the look Irwin Fletcher style

I would take pictures of your car from the underside and some of a brand new Camaro on the dealer lot and then see if you can get some of the GM pics that were posted of the underside of the Camaro to show the judge and hope they throw the ticket out.

A lot of these guys know nothing about cars. I got pulled over in my Evo a long time ago, the dude made me pop the hood. He's like, I bet you added a turbo to this huh? I was like uhh its turbo from the factory.. "oh" . "well what is this thing, this looks modified".. he points to the power steering pump? uhh that's the power steering pump dude.
