2017 ZL1 vs 2017 1LE
Just a topic for something to talk about while we all impatiently wait for more information.
The 5th Gen 1LE (to my knowledge at least) was much like a ZL1, just without the LSA supercharged engine. Will the 2017 1LE be much of the same when compared to the newly unveiled 2017 ZL1? What differences do you think there will be between the 2, besides the obvious LT4 vs LT1 engine, interior trim level and available 10 speed auto. Do you think they'll handle similarly? Brake similarly? Or will the ZL1 outperform the 1LE in every performance metric? They come with the same tires to I believe. |

I'm thinking the 1LE will handle a tad better since it will be lower weight. The Zl1 will beat it around a track because of the power. Braking will probably be very close between the two. The ZL1 will have more amenities than the 1LE since the the 1LE is only available in the 1SS trim level.

I used to be Dragoneye...

They're going to be more similar this generation than they were before.
1LE features (mechanical): Forged 20" Aluminum Wheels Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires 285 front, 305 rear Magnetic Ride Control 6-piston Brembo front brakes, 4-piston rear 14.6in front brake rotors Dual-Mode Exhaust eLSD ZL1 features (mechanical): Forged 20" Aluminum Wheels Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires 285 front, 305 rear Magnetic Ride Control 6-piston Brembo front brakes, 4-piston rear 15.4 in front brake rotors Dual-Mode Exhaust eLSD + optional 10-speed automatic + LT4 6.2L supercharged engine + extensive aerodynamics package In my opinion (only), the 1LE will have a slightly better feel on the track...lighter, quicker response...and the ZL1 will be decidedly faster. |

I thought 1LE will have 4 piston brakes in front.. Not 6.
Edit.. Just looked it up. Guess it's 6. |

I wonder if you'll be able to add the larger diameter rotors with some different hangers. The calipers look the same in the photos. But I also wonder if you do this if it will mess with the balance. The larger front rotors are probably due to the ZL1 being heavier and having more nose weight. They'll probably stop in close to the same distance with what they come with.

That being said I'm curious if there will be a difference in stopping distances with the slightly larger front brakes on the ZL1.

It will be interesting but I think the two will be relatively close in handling. The 1LE will be lighter but have the same tires as the ZL1, so lateral grip probably will be similar. Braking could be close, but the ZL1 does have larger diameter rotors. Obviously, the ZL1 will have a big advantage in acceleration and top speed.

Interesting, this is exactly what I was expecting and hoping for. If I was able to afford a ZL1, I would get it in a heartbeat. But the 1LE doesn't seem like such a bad car to "settle" on.

I also bet the 1LE would be quicker at SOLO II events as well

I can't wait until this damn thing comes out. All my friends got new toys all at the same time and are all gonna be enjoying their new toys all summer long. And here I am, toy-less until next summer
