Question re: my 2017 Camaro SS & tire selection

Gen 6th,
I want to get rid of my OE Eagle F1 A3 runflats and upgrade to the Michelin Pilots 4 S. My car currently has 245/40ZR20 in the front & 275/35/ZR20 in the back. If I want to go slightly larger (255/40ZR20 in the front and 285/35ZR20 in the back on the OE wheels) will they fit without the need for spacers? Will I have any problems? Any help, feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank You.

I went to 285/35s on the rear and keep the stock front tire size 245/40 because my ‘16 SS has MRC. 285/35s are about an inch bigger than the 275/35s and the speedometer is 1 mph off. I think the front size you are wanting to use maybe too big if yours has MRC. Check out tiresize.com to compare different tire sizes to help you. It helped me to decide when I had to buy new tires for my SS!

Those size differences won't make a big difference. Go for it

Anyone know if there is a Tech2 setting for tire size on these cars?

Go to the tire section, lots of info. Some people had to make a change in a wire harness due to rubbing in the rear.

thank you everyone for the input. From the research I've done and all the videos I'm seeing on youtube, everyone is putting at least 285's on the back and there seems to be no issues on OE wheels and enough clearance from the wire harness. Going a little wider on the front with 255/40/20 on OE wheels was my bigger concern, but what I'm learning from most of the feedback is that it should be fine? It's an expensive investment and I just want to get it right. Thanks

my 2017 SS does have MRC, not sure if that would affect the setup I'm looking to go with?

There’s not much clearance between the spring pocket and the tire Kevlar. That’s the main reason I didn’t go to that size in the front. Don’t think it will make much difference and might save you from damaging the new tires. The rear 285/35s seem to help with traction and IMO ride better too. Do some more searching in the tire section and see if you can get any more info!

Thank you for the advice! I will keep looking for more info.
-LT1Greg, did a mechanic advise against going larger in the front if the car has MRC? From what I'm understanding, you considered doing the same thing I want to do with the 255's up front but decided to stick with the 245's?

If anyone has a gen6 camaro ss WITH MRC, can you fit 255/40/20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S on the front using OE wheels? will it affect the MRC? Will I have any problems? Very curious. Thank You!!

While my SS doesn't have Magnetic ride it does wear 255's on the front stock rims when it goes to the road course. No issues after about 30 hours on track.

No I didn’t ask a tech about going to the 255/40s but looked on the tiresize.com at the two size comparison and also stuck my hand between the old runflat and the front spring and determined that I didn’t want to take a chance on the 255/40s because of not much room in the front end. I had 255/40s on my 2010 SS with SLP ZL wheels on the front and 295/35s on the rear. The wheels were 9 inch in the front and 10 inch in the rear. Some posting on the tire section on this forum I did read about going to 255/40s on the front of an SS with MRC a poster said his tires rubbed. I might be mistaken though because it’s been 6 months are more.

Also Kevlar, I put Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires on my ‘16 when the worn out runflats were replaced.

Kevlar, if you have a favorite tire store that you use, you might get them to order the 255/40s to see if they will clear when you get new tires. I’m interested if they will work.
