OnStar

Just picked up a new XT4 for Mrs. Number 3. A very nice vehicle by the way.

OnStar in their "infinite" wisdom now only offers the phone app free for 6 months. After that? $14.95 per month.

On top of that they are so desperate for you to put your credit card on file they would give you 18 months additional app usage for free matching the total 2 years of OnStar if you give them a credit card to put on file. Which only confirms the absolutes of having a GM car....don't give OnStar or XM your credit card.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm a regular user of the app to send directions to the NAV (easier than doing it in the car) and to remote start the car from further than the remote allows. Nice conveniences for me.

But OnStar, it isn't worth $14.95 a month.

We've used OnStar since it's inception starting with our GM company cars and into every car we've owned or leased since leaving GM. But this feels like OnStar is simply desperate to monetize this and they just got lazy and picked the easiest one.....charge for it.

Car Play may be the way from now on.

They've totally screwed up the service. used to be real simple. None of the choices are worth the money they want for them.

Some of the features don't work after 6 months but my remote start app still works 11 months later. I use that daily.

Agreed that OnStar can be spendy. I turn on specific features for a month when taking a car on a long trip and then remove the feature when I'm back home. Basic connectivity service is free and gives you remote start. I have it on my cars.

Agree. The few times I active XM, I ask them to send me a mailed invoice and I pay with a check. To me, paying for On Star was like paying extra to your trash company to have a recycle container....

I thought it was just bad here.
Here they charge € 9.95 per month or 99 per year.
