You're tapping into the airbag light power, so there shouldn't be any difference in 1SS/2SS. Just the 2SS has another plug for Homelink.

I used t-taps personally, so can't comment on how well the mirror tap stays in place.

I like the idea of T-Taps. Any idea what gauge should be used up in there?

I had 16-18 gauge. Just had to use a pair of pliers to pinch the contacts enough to make good connection. I think the wire is probably closer to 20-22 gauge.

So you just swapped out the ends of the MirrorTap with T taps? Or did you not use a Mirror Tap?

Did use one. I've got a Whistler, so made my own hardwire plug for it.

Ok, cool...so I think a MirrorTap and a T tap swap on the ends may be the best bet.

Thanks!

Has anyone done this on a convertible? The overhead covers are different.

I just did this yesterday on my 2017 using the 15" MirrorTap. It worked out okay but I wish it had been about two inches longer. My big fingers. If I had to do it again, I'd make my own from an old phone cord & T-taps and save the $40.

Bumping this in hopes that someone has figured this out. I also have a convertible and am attempting to hardwire my V1 but cannot figure out how to open up the overhead console.

White/purple+ and black- worked like a charm on my base LT. The key is to start the car if you want the unit to work wired this way.

Thanks fellas!

Thank you for this thread.

I hardwired my V1 to my 1SS/1LE on Sunday with the 15" Mirror Tap I had on hand for my last car I never installed it on. Plenty of room, but I am mounting my V1 on the windshield right next to the mirror.
