Yeah. Not sure where the thread title came from, since there's not a single corner in the photo either.
The article does point out something important though: People are pretty nutty during COVID-19. What few cars are on the road all want to go faster. Every time I take my Camaro out, I get at least one driver around me who floors it.

Lockdown accident stats will be interesting to observe, anyway. Just got an email from the insurance company about their 15% refund due to the relative lack of recent claims.

The Crest is amazing and there lots of great corners. But there are a lot of places to go off that don’t have guard rails. And it’s a long way down. I use to ride my sport bikes up there and always had a great time.
My friend Scott died there years ago on his Bike. He went off of a cliff and that was it. |

I don't mean to sound like a grandpa. The roads I am seeing people floor it on aren't empty. It's more like there's just more opportunities to be a dick with the littlest bit of extra elbow room. I was going 60 on a 55 and a Ford Focus tried to pass me on a double yellow while doing 90+. There were also oncoming cars in the other lane. It was the 3rd car to try to do that maneuver this week on me. It was a lot rarer to see that behavior before the lockdown because you'd be sentencing yourself to a guaranteed death with normal traffic.

When did it become legal to drive recklessly? Or you the type to argue to the cop after getting pulled over at 3 am on an empty highway after getting caught going 100 MPH+? |

Never said anything about speeds either, by the way, it's just that some would go as far as to say flooring it when leaving the light should be illegal, too ("excessive acceleration" anyone?), which is a bit silly IMO. Anyway, let me plead your signature: "Disclaimer: Unless specific sources are cited, all of the above is my subjective opinion. No warranties, expressed or implied, are granted. Also, let's be real, I'm pretty sure you didn't buy a Camaro, and a 2SS at that, to accelerate to 55 mph in 20 seconds and then stay there for the rest of your drive.

I have been noticing the same driving habits on the roads now too RenegadeXR!! People driving like bats out of hell in every kind of vehicle. I drive my ZL1 very conservatively and my younger co-workers tell me I drive like a old man! I just say “oh well, better safe than sorry”!!

The same observations here in the Bay Area. The average speed on the freeways now is about 90 - 95 MPH. I don't mind though, I would be lying if I said I wasn't happy to be cruising in the 90 MPH range, usually a little higher because I like to go a little faster than traffic around me for better situational awareness and to keep cars out of the rear corner view. I do not like to pace traffic.
Where it becomes an issue though are those that do it in a reckless manner OR in an old car not designed for those speeds.

The driver of the Mustang must have been really intoxicated not to get killed and to be at the scene of the accident the next day! Didn’t say the condition of the passenger!

Sucks for the owner of that Mustang.
I will say this. I spent good hard earned money on my car. I floor the skinny pedal and keep it there to practice my no lift shifts. I don’t do it in traffic. I don’t do it around pedestrians.i do it on open clear roads. I’d definitely prefer the track to run up to much faster speeds. But I’m sure 95% or more of us floor our cars. Let’s face it. It’s fun!!!! Lots and lots of fun. The other drivers weaving in and out of traffic doubling the speed limits sometimes are the reckless ones. Myself on an open road ripping on it to 80 mph is far less dangerous. If I get caught then it’s my own fault. I could get caught speeding in my work truck too. And I’m sure most members here have been caught speeding at least once. Let’s be real. |

You may be right. I’ve witnessed lots of terrible accidents as I work on the major highways in and around Toronto up here. I’ve found typically if the driver is bombed they usually somehow survive and are conscious. I think it’s cause they are bombed and therefore their bodies don’t tense up readying for impact.
