First track day - a little more positive
Had my first track day today. I'm hooked.
Mods - Track alignment (-2.4 front, -1.6 rear camber), 5w40 dexos 2... everything else stock. Stock pads and brake fluid. Starting tire pressure of 30 psi, 55* here today in MN Course was at Dakota County Technical College, technical course a little over a mile long. Top speed about 100mph on the back straight. Holy hell, this car is amazing. I'm a newbie and it makes me feel like a superhero. Started off in PTM Sport 1, switched to sport 2 towards the end of the second session. Could definitely tell the car was keeping me in line while I was hacking away at the steering wheel. Tires are amazing once they get warmed up. Brakes held on for 3 20 minute sessions, even with stock fluid. Had to scrub about 50mph at the end of the back straight, could tell the pedal was getting a bit soft but it never let out on me. Next track day in a week, can't wait!

Very Cool! I see you were using the track addict app. How difficult was it to get set up and how did the video come out?
I have my first two track days 2 weeks from now at VIR and cannot wait. JD |

very cool and neat looking app!
Our poor tires take a beating, I've done 1 track day and several autocrosses this year. Time for a new set. It's part of the price to pay to have fun! |

The app wasn't too tough to set up, that track isn't in the list but setting up a new one is as easy as setting the start/finish line on the map and just driving the course. Couldn't get it to hook up to my OBD2 bluetooth scanner, but I didn't have much time to play around with that.

What exactly does the track alignment help with?
Do you change it back to street alignment after a track day? |

Don't change it back from the track alignment IMO. As long as you don't go crazy with toe your wear will be fine.

Stability in corners. Improved handling. Going around a turn all the weight transfer goes to the outside tires. With the camber a little more negative the outside tire stands up rather than rolling over giving you the full tire contact patch to work with instead of just the outside edge. Front needs more as it's carrying more weight, and doing more work by the actual change in direction.

Not really. Over a really long time, yes the inside shoulders will wear more than the outsides, but with the nearly 0 toe of the track alignment the inside shoulder wear effect is reduced and the outside shoulders will still get evened out at the track. I got my track alignment at 1100 miles and currently sit at 7500 miles and about 6 track days and my tires are showing just a little tiny bit more wear on the inside than on the outside, and all of that was on the track alignment.

I'm sure if you did the track alignment and only drove it on the street you would see inside tread wear by the time the tires are done. People who track the car will even out the tread wear so it will be nearly undetectable.

So if I plan to do a few AutoX and track days a year plus some daily driving, I mine as well just leave it in track alignment the entire time?
