Should I trade my '16 RS for a '15 2SS with 6,000 miles?

My local dealership where I bought my RS has a 2015 2SS red metallic with beige leather and only 6000 miles on it. Looks like a really clean car. Their sticker price is $27,995.

I love my car, but after going to CamaroFest, I have horsepower envy. I also really like the look of the 5th gens after CFest, and there are reliable paths that have been tested over time to build more horsepower. I want to do some modding and take it to the track. I have experience modding diesels so I can turn a wrench.

My RS is a 1LT and is in great shape 30,000 miles. I don't want to mod this car for a variety of reasons.

Should I look for a used 6th gen 1SS for a little more money?
or
Trade for the '15 2SS that is nearly new for less money out of pocket?

Thanks for any opinions. I'm sure i am overlooking some things so any help is appreciated.

I say you’ll regret it having been in a SixGen. The tech that’s in the SixGen for surpasses the Fifth Gen in my opinion. If anything I’d say see if you’re dealer or Sales Solution Specialist can work something out for you in a new used Six Gen 1SS. Lot of guys are opting 2016’s for 1LE since they became available in 2017. There are some very good used SS cars out there. All I’m saying is weigh your options carefully and choose wisely and avoid regret.

Good luck with your decision!

What the guy above me said. The interior of the ‘15 is going to feel way outdated now that you’ve had a gen6.

I agree you should shop around for a good used ‘16 SS

I don't think Id go to a Zeta car after being spoiled with an Alpha car, unless it was a Z/28.

However, I do wish I had an LS series engine again... I miss the peace of mind.
OP, you should be able to find a 16 SS for that price if you were inclined to do so.

Here is my suggestion. Keep the 6th GEN..

You want a reliable mod path to take to the track?

Take the money you would have spent trading up, and license/sales tax fees,
and buy a 4th gen LS1.

Loved my Gen5 and almost didn’t give it up... then I test drove a Gen6. Wouldn’t ever go back. What you gain in power will be overshadowed by what you’re giving up in innovation, style, and weight. IMO.

maybe you should drive it and see what you think.as a 6ft2,225 pound guy i like my 5th gen over the 6th.that said,if you are less than 6 ft,200 pounds the 6th gen are slightly faster and a newer model.

Lol, you asked the question at the camaro6 forum.... ask at Camaro5....different answers.
Gen6 is far better.... in looks, performance, handling.
For a little more money you will be much happier....

No way I would IMHO downgrade from a 6th to a 5th even if it was for a 5th Gen ZL1. Sure the HP is great but the creature comforts IMHO outweigh the HP from an earlier generation.

That is just me I would search for a 16 or 17 1SS.

The interior of the 5th gen is just plain ugly imo. I wouldn't get it.

Every man/woman must know his or her own limitations. I had a 2010 RS 1LT that I got over the SS, big Mistake, HUGE!!! I later got a 2011 SS used with 3400 on it as I was feeling the red jewel tintcoat. Cammed it and did all kinds power adders and it won most car shows entered into and it was the car I would die with. Loved it until Al Oppenheimer told me to test the SixGen when doing laps at IMS May of 2016. It was a mutha f’ing wrap! I drove home with it and no regrets. Love this car more today than each previous day! No looking back. As I said in the first response, I wouldn’t step back, but step up to new used if (small word big meaning) IF you can’t get a new SS.
