I posted here a while back about this same thing. It happened to me too on my first oil change. Got home and checked the dipstick an hour later as I usually do, and to my surprise absolutely no oil on the dipstick. Called the service manager immediately. Turns out the service tech shorted me 2 quarts because he went by the 6.2 V8 in one other Chevy vehicle that only requires 8 quarts instead of the 10 the Camaro requires. Service manager got me two quarts immediately and made things right with some other goodies. Those service techs that pull this kind of crap deserve a good kick in the pants in my opinion. Don’t even know the vehicles they service. Lol

I had to move it so I started it and checked that it does have oil pressure. I’m thinking they just didn’t put enough in.

I think it’s a Fact that they didn’t put enough in, but they did at least put some in. I’m willing to bet they put 8 quarts in instead of the 10. So if I were you I wouldn’t worry about damage and $hit like that. If you can, let them deliver at least 4 quarts to your home. Pour it in yourself til the required line on the dipstick of course. Definitely make a big stink and have the service manager give you some free services of your choice. I know they won’t have a problem with that.

Who's fault is that though? The tech or the service department for not training them properly?

Your engine will be fine if they only put 6 quarts in but man would I be mad!

Both. But the service techs have a damn computer that they can input the make and model or engine size of a car and it will tell them how much oil to put in. Jeez How hard can that be??

Jesus f'ing h Christ don't these dealers have any common sense or training? Just look at the back of the owners manual for all fluid capacities on every car

I wonder how many 6th gen SS motors have already started smoking or running hot due to low oil. SMDH

You can't trust a dealer if they told you the sun was in the sky. You'd have to go outside and check for yourself. On a clear and sunny 72 degree day at that!

BTW, if the engineering specs say 10 quarts, it means 10 quarts. Running with 6 might be ok very temporarily, but I guarantee GM will not honor any warranty repairs if the engine was constantly run with 6 quarts.

Further more the main concern is long term reliability. At 80k miles you could need serious engine work

NEVER run ANY engine with less oil than specified.

during the first two free oil changes, I was standing right there while they did it. the first dude who did it was new, and going through school, kept stalling my car. Had to ask me how many qts of oil. had to tell him. the 2nd oil change, Ihad my trust worthy tech that I know do it from then. I now do my own.

I ended up having the service manager drive to my house we had to add 4 quarts or oil . I had them right up a statement on what happened should I have any issues in the future needless to say this is the first and last time dealer will change my oil..

Glad to see they took care of you. Still pisses me off this keeps happening. Wow 4 quarts short is ridiculous. Make sure they provide something extra for your inconvenience. Even if your never having them change it again. You deserve it.

It was unacceptable back in 2015-2016 but somewhat understandable for this to happen due to the transition between the LS3/L99 and the LT1.

But it's disgusting this is still happening today. This is why I went to changing my own oil now too.

Hearing about shit like this makes me nervous about bringing my car in for its first oil change. I couldn’t care less about two free oil changes either.

Wish I could do it myself but I have some health issues.

The idiots at the dealership are too lazy to look at the manual

I know some guys at a quick oil change place. They can change it for me. I can even buy the oil and filter. At an auto parts store. They will only charge me for labor.

So, what was the process to add the 4 quarts? Since the procedure is to add oil, run the car, wait 1/2 hr, measure. Add some more, run it, wait 1/2 hr, measure?

Or did they just add the 4 quarts one at a time with the engine off and measured it?

Does that provide the right measurement?

I ask because I took my one 5W40 Dexos2 oil to the dealer for them to change. Two 5L jugs, for a total of 10.6 quarts. They claimed they used all the oil.Oil on dipstick is at the very, very top of hash marks.
