I have been in the GM many times over the years, GM sets a hard coded RPM limit in the calibration for "Park", "Neutral" and when the clutch is pushed in. There is no way around it unless you are willing to have someone with HP Tuners or EFI-Live go in and change the RPM limit.

There was no such limit in my 5th Gen SS 1LE. In fact, the only way I could activate Launch Control was to enter "Competitive Mode" (press SC button 2x) and quickly apply WOT. At any other time I could go all the way to the rev limiter, even in Launch Control if I more slowly applied throttle.

This is definitely a departure from previous "norm", and seriously reduces options when launching at the drag strip.

I think the reason you have the need to "double-clutch" is because of the wheel slip % calculation.
Given the nature of a percentage calculation (part/whole) where the whole portion is relatively small when compared to the part portion, it doesn’t take much actual slip or error in the calculation to produce a
relatively high Wheel Slip %.

For example, if the front tires are moving at 1 MPH and the rear tires are moving at 2 MPH, the computer is going to start pulling timing due to the 100% wheel slip. That's why the car needs to be moving a little bit before you put the power down. Otherwise the Wheel Slip % goes through the roof and the car pulls timing and falls on its face.

I'm not sure if you've seen this, but I have an open investigation into this problem documented here:

There's a summary document attachment in post #97.

What size rims and radials did you end up getting?

I don't believe that. A Copo uses Strange 9in 4 link rear end.

Here's a vid of a 2016

and a 2017

Both have Strange Engineering 9in rear ends

That first car isn't the COPO racers. It's a drag development car. It's also using the A8 which COPO cars don't use.
