Rear sway bar on zl1-1le

Was at Road Atlanta a few weeks back and the car felt very loose in corners and even under heavy braking . I am going to add 1/8 inch rear toe but I was also thinking that moving the rear sway bar from the middle hole to the forward hole will tighten it up some also. Has anyone moved theirs yet and what was the result ?

Where was the rear bar set to at RA? A pic would be very helpful

ZL1 1LE rear bar is adjustable (3-adjustment). The OP is in the middle. The hole that is closer to the bar is ~15% stiffer (more towards oversteer; more rate in the rear suspension) and the forward hole, farthest away from the bar is ~10% softer (more towards understeer; less rate in the rear suspension).

I'd first double-check you PDR/data/video to see if you weren't just doing something to induce the issue. If not, think back to your air pressures.

If that isn't it...

If what is being felt is fairly minor, try just the sway bar adjustment.

If what is being felt is fairly significant, yeah, start looking at alignment settings. Leave the sway bar alone and adjust it at the track if you still need.

I’ve tried the different swaybar settings and softening it up does indeed reduce oversteer. It’s a simple change to make so no harm in trying it out.

Coincidently Randy Pobst was at the track that day and he and I went out in my car and ran about 7 hot laps with him driving and me riding shotgun . He felt the car was loose as well and suggested the 1/8 inch toe in on the back. I think I will start with that and try adjusting the sway bar at the track if the toe does not help the issue . thanks for the input.

Its in the middle hole I guess that would be considered nuetral.

Very cool. Randy is a good guy! His butt has a lot of experience with cars, performance and what kind of changes do what to the dynamics... Definitely put good weight on his opinion!

Curious, are you saying you will add 1/8 toe in or are you changing your toe to 1/8 toe in? What is your current rear toe?

Gotta know what your current toe is.
1/8" toe in is quite different of what others are using on the ZL1 1LE.
GM specs .1 degrees of toe in.

.1 degrees is .047"

1/8" (.125") converted to degrees is .27 degrees.

What camber are you running? Lots of front negative camber will cause instability under heavy braking.

You can also go 1/2 settings for more tunable rear if you only move one position hole on one side (doesn’t matter which side) - (1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 2-3, 3-3)
