Educate on slicks

Hey all, I'm going to run 18in wheels with slicks this year. Looking for advise on which brand to use.
I hear Camaro's are on the heavy side for Hoosiers. Pirelli's last a little longer but not as tacky. Michelin's expensive and hard to find. Am I missing any brands? What sizes for non square setup? Thanks, in advance

I run hoosiers without an issue. Hoosier R7's last a good amount of time until they heat cycle out ~ 17 heat cycles. I've never used michelins, I've used scrub Pirellis before but the hoosiers were much better. Big advantage of the Pirellis is they are much lighter than the hoosiers.

I think R7's are a solid option for tracking the car. A7's are too much for the stock SS1LE suspention or ZL1 suspension, fine on the ZLE. I also really like the OEM SC3 tires, great cost/performance, especially if you're just doing HPDE.

looking to see what improvement they will or will not make to my times. last year I placed behind everyone who was on slicks. adding new brakes and hopefully a few SPL parts. Ive also bumped the power over 700whp, which is alot for a road race car on street tires (sc3r).

I've had very good luck with the Hankook Z214s. I feel they are nearly a quick as the Hoosier R7 and wear well. They are limited in sizes and I run 315/30/18 square on my ZLE.

Tires, Aero, Power to weight are the 3 things you can do that will have the biggest impact on times IMO. Everything else is just details. For reference(roughly) at CMP my Hoosier A7's are about 3.5 seconds faster than SC3's. At VIR It's about the same. Hoosier R7's are about 2 seconds slower than the A7's.

Some tracks tires don't matter as much though. Road Atlanta is one of them, my A7's there are only about 2 seconds faster than SC3's. The more corners with consistent lateral load = more time you will find with slicks.

If you're running SC3R's (Similar pace to R7's) you can find some time by going to A7's but where you will find the most time is likely through driver coaching and practice.

If you go to 18,s make sure you wipe the crud from the inside of the barrels after your session. There is not much room between the calipers and the barrels.

Slicks last longer on the track than street tires, they don't overheat. And also are more grippy, consistent, and fun. Just make sure to get the (harder) track compound, not the (softer) autocross compound.
