New wheel bearings did not help the problem.
My suspension and alignment shop says that the steering shaft is oblong/ eccentric and does in fact contact the headers when the engine rocks back and forth on the engine mounts. While I still don’t think this is the cause of the noise or vibration, Does anyone know if the steering shaft is supposed to be anything but straight? This car was in a crash on the race track last year at this time And if you parts were replaced on the front end, mostly body parts and radiators and intercoolers.

So the long tube headers were making contact with the steering column, now that the engine has been shifted over slightly on the mounts, the noise is gone. I can’t believe how much it sounded like a rotating noise when it wasn’t

I've replaced a wheel ball bearing on my Camaro after about 10 track days from https://nyzbearing.com/wheel-hub-bearings/. The symptoms were similar – a metal-on-metal noise when turning, especially under lateral G forces. It's strange that there are no visible marks, though.

Since this thread got brought up I now want to order some spare wheel hubs for my car but I'm having a hard time finding them.
The only ones I was able to find that is not out of order or discontinued was part number 13552403 from gmpartsdirect.com. I think this is the correct one, can anyone verify or does anyone have a source for the front/rear wheel hubs that is not out of stock. |

I ended up ordering an older part number (13542187) from tascaparts.com since they had 10 in stock.
I ordered the fronts only for now. |

Bearings can be tricky – sometimes they fail without obvious wear marks. Heat from track days can do damage that's invisible to the eye. Glad you got it sorted!
Personally i use Bearing MFG and never faced any problem like this. Last edited by Janitims; 03-22-2024 at 06:01 PM. |
