2016 1SS Handling Question
Hello,
I am looking at buying a 2016 1SS Camaro. This car doesn't have the Magnetic Ride Control but does that affect the handling or does the 1SS still pull close to 1g on the skidpad? Thanks |

They SS they used in this comparison was non-Mag Ride car and it achieved 1g on the skidpad. I can tell you as someone who owns a Mag-ride 1ss I love the suspension as the car is my daily. Tour mode is awesome on the highway. Up to you though. Good luck! Edit: A mag ride car is going to allow you to set the suspension up 3 different ways in the driving menus : Tour Sport, and Track. So you can affect how the car feels on the road. A non-mag car will not give you those options. |

The first car I test drove didn't have magnetic ride control and it felt great. With that said, magnetic ride control is far superior and literally feels like your car is a magnet to the road. I highly recommend MRC.

Honestly, I don't know how the non-Mag suspension is, but the Mag suspension is livable in Tour. In Sport and Track especially, it feels too stiff and uncomfortable. I would hate to go on a road trip with the suspension on Sport/Track.
I've never driven a non-Mag suspension, but I bet it is not as comfy as Tour and for sure it is on the stiff side. Your back will thank you, find a car at the right price with the optional magnetic suspension.

I have a 1ss without the magnetic ride and I think that the suspension is great.

Me too. The base SS suspension feels very well damped and dialed in without ever being harsh. Motor Trend said they preferred the non-MRC suspension in the head2head vs. the M4

I have a non-MRC, but have driven MRC equipped cars. I don't need MRC, but I do need NPP. My car has been a great daily for over a year and a half now.

I also have a non-mag SS and am a bit older then most of you guys and think the ride is very comfortable, So much so that I prefer the ride to our Lincoln MKX SUV. Wife agrees that the ride is better. I don't regret not getting it. Wish I could ride in a Mag Ride though to compare.

I have MRC in my 50th 2SS 'vert... and I usually leave it in Sport. That said, I spent the previous 18 months driving a '16 C7 with MRC in Tour. Camaro feels more compliant

MRC makes a huge difference in my opinion and for what it's worth, that of Consumer Reports. In fact they said they wouldn't recommend buying a Camaro without it. I know CR isn't an enthusiast magazine but they do test cars carefully and in my direct expoerence, MRC allows me to have a somewhat plush ride or one which you can really feel the road. It's not a gimmick and well worth it if you drive on different quality roads or track the car. I switch mine between modes 2-3 times each trip as some roads are twisty and smooth (track) while others are filled with potholes (tour).
To your original question, I am not sure if the g force generated is greater with MRC or not. I would probably say no since much of that is related to the type of tires you have on the car. http://http://www.consumerreports.org/camaro/2016-chevrolet-camaro-ss-proves-dynamic-delight/ |
