Unable to program new key fob
Hey guys,
I purchased a 2017 Camaro 2SS used, and it only came with one key/fob. I bought a second key/fob from the OEM new, and attempted to follow the procedure in the manual for pairing a new transmitter if you have fewer than 2 transmitters already paired. I was able to re-pair my original key, but the car does not seem to recognize the new key. The screen prompts me by saying it is ready to pair remote 2, I put the remote in the rear cupholder, hit the start button, and then remove the remote and press unlock, but the remote does not seem to pair. I replaced the battery that came with the remote with a fresh battery, and that did not seem to resolve the issue. Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there a way to tell if a transmitter is defective? |

I thought you have to have 2 working remotes to be able to pair additional. I know my kids car is this way, it wont let you pair additional remotes if you only have 1 working key.

According to the manual, there is a procedure for pairing keys if you only have one transmitter. I've followed this procedure and am having trouble with the second (new from the OEM) key.

Any luck finishing the pairing? Did you try pairing the new RKE first?

No luck still. Haven't tried pairing the new key first--that would require starting the process over, which would take about 30 minutes.

It looks like you need to perform step 2 three times in a row without any keys in the cupholder before programming any keys. Does this sound right?

That’s the way I read it.
Camaroman123, did you get the message “ready to pair remote 3” before removing the new fob? Just thinking maybe it didn’t finish the pair. |

Correct, I perform step #2 three times in a row, and then I get prompted to pair remote #1. I am able to successfully pair remote #1, and am then prompted that the car is ready to pair remote #2. Following the same exact sequence of steps, I am unable to pair remote #2, which is the one that I purchased from the OEM.

What if you try to program the new remote first and the original remote second? This will tell you if it's the key fob or the remote sequence that is causing the problem.

Got the pairing to take!
For anyone who stumbles across this thread in the future: I did not have to re-start the sequence from scratch. My car prompted me this morning to again try to pair remote #2, and I removed the little rubber pad that sits on the top of the cupholder, put my remote face down flat in the cupholder (as opposed to standing up at an angle, like I had been before), and the pairing seemed to take. |

Sweet!
Glad it worked for ya! Did you remember to hold the start button for 12sec to end the learning mode? |
