Getting a pro tune this week.

Matt and Rodney from Florida Speed and Power are going to help us out this week. I'll post dynos before and after the tune. I can't thank the FSP guys enough for their willingness to do this the right way and get the most out of the car safely. Weather permitting, we'll be at the track on Thursday and let you know the results.

There will be no other modifications other than a tune at this time. The A8 might get the shifts firmed up, but nothing else. The tune will be for the ECM mainly. It is easy to do a few "invisible" mods and run fast times without revealing the mods, but I'm the type of person to lay it all on the table so that others can determine what they might want to do with their cars. Let's see what the rewards of a tune only 16 SS are first, and then look at some minor bolt ons later.

Stay tuned...

Joe

Still getting a tune, but the track has a big event this weekend and no T&T on Thursday. It won't be til mid Feb for us to get another try.

A tune on a stock car like this won't show much of a gain. But, it will remove some torque management and firm up his shift points, which will be even more important...

Not necessarily TM, but the fact that the GM tune doesn't allow for full throttle body opening until about 4K. That should help lower my 60' and 330' times to get close to what another stock Camaro did in the 1/4.

Assuming this other car had a tune then?

Matt at FS&P from tuning LT1's in Vettes.

Am I assuming the other car had a tune? No. But I'd like to run with his car. Knowing he had a -1000DA and trapped 116, there's no way my car would do the same without a tune. Must have gotten a slightly slower SS.

Well -1000 DA is beyond fantastic, and rare...I have never ran in anything better then about +250 or so, as I am in Florida as well. What was the DA when you ran again? That cars 116 was not the norm though, DA or not. I thought I read there even was a tail wind. All the autos that I have seen, or know of have trapped 112-114...in various DA's and run pretty much what you ran ET wise.

Our DA was 475ish. We were close to 113 on one of the traps. I am just curious as to what a tune does to these cars. If it does nothing, at least we'll know.

And that 116 and 117 trap speed on the other stock 16 car was really impressive even with a minus DA. Many drag racers love to tweak on cars and say they're stock just to keep the mystery alive.

Back in my W-body days, we had a guy that had all the same mods as we did, and he was 1 second faster with almost 8MPH on us. He ranted and raved about his car being similar to ours, but it turned out he had a bottle of nitrous hidden in his door panel when all the secrets were finally out in the open. LOL

Another point I should have made is that comparing one track/night to a different track/night is not reliable. For apples to apples, newer 5.0 Mustangs were 13.3 and Hemi Chargers were 14.1 on the same night that we ran.

From my experience you will gain very little from the stock tune power wise, but you are correct about the TB not opening all the way. We switched ours over to E85 and picked up ~33HP and 25TQ

Of course, but DA corrections help. What is odd is your DA was pretty decent, and those times are slow for the other cars. Both of my previous coyotes (2011's) ran better then that in crappier DA. If I recall my stock times were 12.8 for the manual and 12.9 for the automatic, and I'm 250 pounds. Both were in the spring (1000 DA or so) at Orlando Speed World. I have to assume the 14 second Chargers were RT's as the 392's run well into the 12's even with Joe Blow driving lol...

Did anything else need to be changed for the E85 conversion? Injectors?

Nice gains for a tune/E85 swap...
