I'm guessing it will be next spring before we see any pics. Pacing the floor here.

I have a hunch that when the new Mustang starts hitting dealer lots (next summer?), we'll start seeing some Camaro spy shots... and some leaked specs. GM is going to want to give the folks looking at the Mustang some reasons to hold off... stuff that gives the Mustang buyer second thoughts along the lines of 'Do I pull the trigger on a new Mustang when something better... potentially a lot better... is just a year away?'

We got teased with the 5th gen since the clay models leaked in 2005 and we saw the car in 2006 -- three full years before people took ownership. I have a feeling for the 6th gen we won't see too many pre-production mule photos until late summer next year at the earliest.

I am right there with you. About the time the Mustang hits the road the 6th Gen Camaro will start to slowly come into focus.

Pics of the new Mustang for the Dec Car and Driver.

They say the V-8 will make 500 hp by the end of 2015. Some healthy competition for Gen6. The ATS chassis should be very competitive with the LT1.

Wow, a base 5.0 GT making 500 HP? If true, that is pretty insane.

At launch, the Mustang will be available with the same engine options offered by the current Mustang: a naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V-6 and the “Coyote” 5.0-liter V-8, each with the same power ratings as the Mustangs on showroom floors today (305 and 420 horsepower, respectively). Transmissions, too, will carry over at the outset, with shoppers given a choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. That will change in the two to three years after launch, when the 10-speed auto being jointly developed with GM will replace the six-speed slushbox.

However, the Mustang’s 2015 model year will be a long one—as was 1965—and thus, Ford will offer powertrain upgrades in the months after its launch. Updates to the V-6 will be minimal, but we understand that the GT-badged “five-oh” will jump to 500 horsepower.
