I would ask them if they could ship it to a partner dealer in SoCal. In some instances dealers work across the country often, and will "trade" cars with a BMW dealership close to you if you are really interested in buying the car. This way the dealer that has the car gets a product in return to sell in TN.
Not a guarantee by any means but I have heard this happen for serious buyers. Problem is they will ship the car via open car hauler. Last edited by Mov Ov3r; 01-09-2020 at 08:42 AM. Reason: capitalization |

Frost,
I looked up the car you’re looking at. It’s the gray one in Nashville at the bmw dealer. Pretty car! Looks legit and priced right. Another suggestion along the lines of my earlier one: Have the dealer take it to a Chevy dealer in Nashville, preferably one that sells and services a good number of Camaros and Vettes, because their techs are likely specialists in the LT motors and the HP stuff. That dealer can perform what they call a pre-purchase inspection. Probably cost you around $300 but they can pull the vin and check for recalls, more detailed service records than car fax shows, and have the knowledge about Camaros. Specify that you want full accounting of cosmetic issues as well. I wouldn’t trust the selling dealer to be totally up front about those. What’s a “minor scratch” to them may be more serious to you. You want an unbiased opinion with close up photos of any cosmetic items. A 3rd party evaluation is your best bet. Keep in mind, enclosed transport is going to cost you about $1500. Add $300-400 for the PPI, and you’re tickling $38k to own it. If you’re set in that color or particular options it has, get it! Otherwise, that blue one in Seattle is a good deal, and is brand new. B to B starts the day you close on it. And SEA-SoCal would indeed be a nice break-in for the car, and doable in two days. I’d probably make an offer to the bmw dealer, less $800 or so from asking, and play the “it’s gonna cost me to ship it” card. Contingent on satisfactory PPI at a Chevy dealer of your choosing that they take care of (delivery to dealer, you pay the cost. And whatever you do, don’t let them pay it. If they do, the Chevy dealer is not working for you, they’d be working for the bmw dealer). I don’t think you could go wrong on either car. Good luck and keep us posted!

Frost, have you thought about soliciting a forum member near Nashville to check it out for you?
Just a thought. If it was close to me, I'd check it out for you. But, it is 8 hrs away from me.

I think you'll have some luck trying to deal with a BMW dealer. My car was traded in for a BMW. The BMW dealer didn't want to hassle with a Camaro (different sales demographic) and sold it to a mom & pop type dealer. I played the "I gotta ship it" and "I gotta come look at it" card and they gave me their bottom number, which was $2500 less than asking. Granted I bought a convertible in December in Salt Lake City, but a SS 1LE with a manual is also a car with a very small target market, and it isn't exactly sunshine and 70's in Tennessee right now! Make them a lowball offer to start and come up as needed. Do the PPI thing. I'll bet they took it on trade for a Beamer from someone who didn't care 'cause they just wanted a Beamer. They're gonna make $$ at less than asking.

I checked the car out on the dealer’s website too and I personally don’t think anything is wrong with the car! I like that Satin Steel Gray too!

PM and we can exchange information. Good luck in your search. FYI, I bought my 2SS same way. I live in TN but bought it from Ocala, FL. Had a 3rd party inspect it and send back a report which I still recommend regardless if you have someone go look at it for you. Lemonsquad performed mines inclusive of photos of the visit along with a test drive and roughly a 36 point inspection. Report came back fine, I flew down and was in and out in 30-40 mins. Dealer picked me up from the airport which was about an hour away. |

Not a bad price for a near loaded 1LE although it appears to not have the awesome PDR option. That’s a deal breaker right there for me but I’m not the one interested in the vehicle. Definitely should have it checked out, make sure no rims have been curbed and no paint work. Looks clean but ya gotta see it up close.

I just bought a 20 1SS1LE with 400 miles Rally Green in FL for 36500 OTD. Shipping is 825.00 to L.A. so that's a pretty good entry point for a 20 IMO. I didn't feel the need to have it checked out with that mileage and it was also a trade in at Rick Hendrick Chevy and sold locally to that dealer. I saw that one you are looking at, but had to jump on this one as i was considering ordering one in RG. As mentioned make sure it has RPO FE9(50 state emissions) as i was looking at a couple others and they were not..deal killer if you want to get smogged here. Good luck!

I thought all Camaros produced are 50 states emission compliant including Cali! Isn’t that the reason why there are 4 catalytic converters on the car?

One would think so, but not the case. There are about a dozen states that seemingly don't order the cars with FE9,quick way to tell is under the hood there's a sliver sticker that addresses the emissions and it needs to state CA compliant. Been that way for years, a buddy bought a Z/28 at an auction and didn't know to check for that label and he got turfed at the smog check,VIN was in the system game over.

Frost,
To ensure FE9 as noted, pretty easy. Email socialmedia@gm.com with the vin and they’ll give you the build sheet with every RPO, its full description, and build date. If you’d like to see the original window sticker if it’s not with the car now, www.monroneylabels.com with the vin for $7.99 and you’ll get the full window sticker (not same format, but has all the info) that shows options and MSRP. I can’t stop looking at that car in the browser tab I haven’t closed, those colors are really sweet!
