Trading in Tuned & Catless 2019

Hi,

Could it come back to haunt me if I trade my 2019 Camaro SS that has been tuned, headers installed, with an xpipe? I mentioned gauges and they said they don't care about gauges. I'm located in Florida.

Well, most performance mods are personal upgrades that not every buyer will want...and therefore some dealers will see them as a negative as compared to bone stock. At a minimum, I doubt the mods will bring you anymore $ for them, and may actually hurt the value on trade as opposed to a private buyer that understands the value of what you have done.

Thank you for the response. They already briefly looked at the car and gave me a quote for trade in, I'm about to trade it in, but afraid they will see it has headers and tuned in a day or two, then try to cancel the sale.

Well if you are worried, why not just be up front and let them make the choice if they want to proceed?

When you say catless, front and rear or just rears? Honestly it just depends on the dealer and usually what your emissions laws are, if I remember right florida is pretty care free like here in az, when I traded in my 5th gen and all the goodies with it the only comment I got was “oh someone will buy it quick”. As long as your state doesnt go by CARB laws, 90% of the time if the CEL isn’t on, they won't care.

And out of curiosity, what are you trading for?

I was asked point blank if my SS had only a axle back or any modifications front of that.

Dealer will decide your value as it it pertains to them.

If you have the original parts, you could put it back to stock. Then sell the parts for extra cash here.

Agreed.. If you were buying the car from the dealer wouldn't you want them to be upfront with you about any mods that may have been done to the vehicle you are purchasing?

Well my personal opionion is the dealer can get F'd, I only think of the next buyer when the engine grenades and they find out it's tuned and they tell him "ya gee sorry but the powertrain is void because guy X tuned it".

We've seen that on this forum a few times when the new owner has a problem and the dealer hooks up to it and see it's tuned and that guy is left holding the bag.

I did a trade in with my modded 2010 2SS for a new 2016 2SS and I was upfront about the mods that were done including a tune and the dealership was fine with it. I loaded up all the stock parts that were taken off in the 2010 when I did the deal on the 2016 and put them in the back seat, front passenger seat and trunk and drove it to the dealership. I later found out that the new owner didn’t get the stock SS wheels and most all the parts I took off the car which I didn’t care anyway. When I traded in my 2016 on the used 2017 ZL1 I left the CAI on it and a few other parts but not as many as the 2010 had. Good luck and just be honest with the dealership about your SS and if you have to change back to the stock configuration and sell your aftermarket parts if possible.

I want to trade the car in and I have a feeling they wouldn't want it without cats.

They're going to know as soon as they inspect it and give you and offer.

I wouldn't lie if asked, but that is not something hard to detect like a tuned ECM. A quick undercarriage inspection will make it very obvious.

Not sure it is your responsibility to make them aware of the obvious, but again you shouldn't lie if asked.
