285/30/20 up front rubbing on strut tower
Has anyone put 285/30/20s on the front of there SS? I am having issues with the tire rubbing on the strut where the metal protrudes for the spring seat. I put 3mm spacers up front as well but that did not give it any further clearance.
I am about to buy some coilovers to mitigate the problem, however I do not want to spend that money when I like the suspension as it is now. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

285/30R20 is the stock size on the SS 1LE. And i thought the magnaride shocks were bigger than the regular ss shocks. To be rubbing on the spring perch you’d have to be on lowering springs.

I've gone to 275/35s since then and ditched the spacers altogether.

i put a piece of blue painters tape on the metal and went for a ride. Went over a few speedbumps and saw rubbing on the painters tape. Maybe its just the tires flexing, but still concerning. Does this look ok? |

SS 1LE is +20 offset to run 285/30/20, so your wheels are pushed way too far in IMO.

Yeah what he said. Also are you sure those aren't 285/35s?

yah im sure they are 285/30/20s.. Ill throw my 5mm spacers on the front and see if it makes a difference. Might have to go 10mm just dont want to push them out to far.

As everyone says, too much offset pushed you inwards. OEM 1LE wheels are +20, my 1LE replicas are +23, your +35 is way too much.
If you add spacers thicker than 5 mm, you'll want new wheel studs, there isn't enough thread on the stock ones, so don't forget to buy extended wheel studs or spacers that come with them.

thanks all!! I went with 12mm spacers and they will be here Sunday. They are more like wheel adapters and come with wheel studs. I may have to buy smaller studs for the hub assembly if they stick out passed the spacer as the wheels are flat on the backside. Maybe a little grinding will cover that. I will let everyone know how I make out.
I did try the 5mm spacer and it was not enough. I put the 5mm and 3mm spacer on to see how much more I would need to go and they almost cleared. So im guessing right around 10mm would be enough so i added the extra 2mm for good measure. |
