SS 1LE vs ZL1 Track

Hello, I am looking to purchase a 6 speed camaro but I could not decide which vehicle will be the best for track days. ZL1 1LE is out of my budget range so I will only be choosing between ZL1 and SS 1LE. I've heard the SS 1LE is more balanced compared to the ZL1, for ZL1 owners does the vehicle feel heavier with the supercharger? How about handling the 650 Hp and torque? Thanks alot for any available information!

zl1 is faster but also heavier so probably harder on tires and brakes what did you track before this or is this your first "track " car ?

I had a C7 Z51 automatic before. Just learned how to drive manual and wanted to get back into the Camaro. Only thing that's stopping me from getting SS 1LE is I want a different engine....but yah the weight to it is a big concern.

Get a SS 1le, Learn to drive the car at the limits. Add power once you put down consistent lap times and get bored with 455hp

This is great advice IMO. Spend the money you saved on seat time, track wheel/tire setup. You will be a wheel man not a straight away hero!

I had a ZL1, switched to a ZLE, and see SS1LE’s on track all the time. Difference between ZL1 and SS1LE isn’t as much as you’d think on track, but depends on the track and the drivers. They have basically the same suspension, tires and aero. I learned a lot from giving point by’s to lower HP SS1LE’s on track. Also, the ZL1 overpowers the subframe bushings, so I’d plan on upgrading those if you go that route. Doesn’t seem to be as big an issue with SS1LE.

The SS1LE is such an amazing value. I’d get that, spend the difference on consumables and track time, then upgrade to ZLE later. SS1LE is also more competitive in S2 time trials than Zl1 is in S1, if you care about that.

Thanks a lot! Many are giving me the advice that seat time + tires + brakes is all that takes to become a good driver.

SS1LE until you can hit it's limits on the track. I learned to drive a C6Z (equal to an SS1LE) at it's limits before I moved to a ZLE. So glad I did.

SS1LE is the greatest laptime bargain to date

Get an SS1LE, and get really good at driving. You’ll be passing the zl1 and ZL1 1LE’s in no time because 8/10 ZL1 drivers don’t know what they’re doing

+1!
I’ve had more straightway heroes in their ZL1s not give a point by because they could get a little separation on the straights, but I was kissing their tailpipes in the twisties, and would have lapped them had they let me by. Learn to drive was the best advice this forum gave me, so you should take it too. Not knowing what to do with that ZL1 power will definitely increase your consumables cost as well.

so my buddy had a ss 1le before and i was beating him at the track in my 1ss then we talked and said can you imagine having extra 200hp bigger brakes race tires and full aero and we both laughed and said no

3 months later he sold his ss 1le and got a zl1 1le lol good for him

at our last track day both new track to us i was beating him all day until final session and he was chasing me and ended up beating me by 2 seconds or so

ss 1le was manual zl1 1le is auto and he himself said hes not great at driving stick so its not all about the car sometimes its car + driver but either way we have fun always
