Awesome engineering that was put into this car, but it has been an embarrassment at the drag strips and the streets by the gt500. It is to be expected with an almost 100rwhp advantage in its defense. Gm needs to add the 2.3 blower

The magazines say the zl1 is the new muscle car king so it does not need any more power and chevy says that acceleration does not matter any more so there it is in a nut shell

I'll conceed the GT500 is the King of HP and the strip, but that's all I'll conceed. I think many reasonable people might agree.

I'm not going to go that far yet... the 1/4 mile time slips are starting to look closer to the GT500 as people are starting to figure the methods of launching the ZL. I still think the GT500 is the straightline go fast car, but everything else is lacking.

I can't get past three facts:
* 200-pounds less weight
* +80-more horsepower
* telephone pole axle with less drag

All that stuff is GREAT for the strip. KING is a relative term, so I guess that wasn't the greatest one to use. I used it mostly because of a quote I was thinking about while posting. While I think the GT500 might be a better car at the strip than ZL1 is better than the GT500 at the track, that changes from day to day, so seeing times like this, for a bone stock ZL1 - I start to think it is not.

Those 3 facts are very eye catching... but to have that much more over the competition.. its very fooling in terms of reality when the 2 meet head to head.

And that's an excellent point! Traction is likely the biggest issue, assuming the driver-factor is not in the equation.

I'm more inclined to believe the ZL1 is running better times because of the cooler air. Not because people are learning to launch them properly.

But that is just my opinion based on the numerous reports of heat-soak.
