Mobile 1 esp x3

I found that autozone had the esp 0w-40 in stock so I bought enough to change my ss 1le. When I picked it up the bottle says esp x3. I know the regular esp was suppose to change to supercar, but is this stuff equivalent? Is is dexos2.

The Dexos specification should be listed on the label. The web site lists it as GM dexos2.

I have a drum it's supercar 0W 40 esp now. If it doesn't say supercar you just have older product. Sometime around feb/March esp was discontinued it took about 3 mos. to get the new supercar esp.

I noticed they added a European esp now and before there were actually 2 esp available for our cars.

It's funny in drum they have and had. euro 0W40, 0w40 full synthetic, and 2 esps(now they supercar esp)

Point I'm making is ESP in the label adds about 800 to 1000 per barrel I could get euro for 1200 and esp for 2200 delivered .

I like the 0W40 esp it has low ash so it doesn't mess with my tier 4 tractors and as long as temp is under 105 it's ok to use vs 10w40, also I can use it in all my gas carts. Not to mention the camaros lol.

$1600.00 and change about 7.30 per qt there's 220 quarts in a drum, I had to pay 400 extra because the company card was maxed so I had to use my fuel company to put on a ticket to charge so after all that I paid 2200.00

If you buy directly from Golden west out of san antanio 1600.00 so less than 7.50 a quart.

Sometimes I'll get lucky at jeggs and buy a 6 pack of quarts for 43.20. I'll then use there coupons to split up evenly so I use the coupon to the max total.

43.20(6 quarts per box)
220 quarts to equal a drum 6x 37=222
37x43.20 =7.20 per quart
43.20x37 =$1598.00

So with the jeggs coupon is cheaper and free ship this time..

The next time with the coupon it was 10 bucks more per case..

The bottles were cheaper in 2021 it was cheaper only with jegs discount and free ship over the drum

Now the drum is cheaper if u buy direct

Excuse my ignorance but why are people running ESP oil? Our cars don't have the exhaust particulate filter like Euro cars that requires this type of oil do they?

Because they are DI and the normal oil with high TBN number and high ash oil has soft metals the stick to the intake valves.

Esp oil has a lower TBN then the normal line of oil and a lower ash number.

I laugh at the amsoil people high TBN and high ash. It's great oil no doubt but it will lead to more carbon on the valves. The so called wear additives and additives that make the oil last longer are the same components that stick to the valves.

Do some research and you will see.

This is an interesting statement. I have used Amsoil in the past, have heard good things about it. Looking at what I should be getting for my '22 LT1. Looks like Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP.

On an unrelated-yet-similar topic is Amsoil and DEXOS compatibility.

https://blog.amsoil.com/gm-dexos-and-lspi/

AMSOIL synthetic motor oils meet or exceed the latest industry standards, including ILSAC GF-6, API SP and GM dexos1 Gen 2.

You can safely use our synthetic motor oils in engines that call for those specifications.

In fact, AMSOIL achieved 100 percent protection against LSPI in the engine test required by GM’s dexos1 Gen 2 specification.*

So they meet the spec, but just don't have the stamp/certification?

The Facebook Group was on fire this weekend about a post I made about the X3 oil, how it was wrong, my engine will get destroyed, oil analysis will be done, and then warranty will be denied because I used the wrong oil.

An oil that is on the list of oils GM says to use.

What gives?

The spec is dexos2 or dexosR. dexos1 no longer 'approved'.

There are currently 4 dexos2 0w-40 oils on the approved list.

Castrol Edge

Mobil 1 ESP
Mobil 1 ESP Formula
Mobil 1 ESP x3

I think the Castrol Edge 0w-40 dexos2 is only sold in Europe. The 0w-40 A3/A4 Castrol Edge at Walmart is not it. If it doesn't have dexos 2 on it I don't believe it is.
