my experience with this topic is as follows

ive used (fresh) oem, rp synchromesh & redline d4

the trans feels best with fresh fluid. ~6 months after changing fluids, the trans goes back to being clunky. always shifts good at wot, never any real issues other than it's just clunky.

no winter use, not a dd. i change trans fluid every spring.

its my experience that it doesn't matter what brand you use. initially the trans will feel great but eventually go back to its tr6060 ways.

My current lean is definitely the AMSOIL. Appreciate it!

Had a feeling this may be the case. Appreciate your input.

There is a thread in the Facebook 1LE Group. I cannot link it here as it is a private group.
The thread has about 50 replies, a few have used the Mobil 1 HP ATF with good success.

Looks like you have tried almost all the options. Thanks for the feedback.

I thought dex6 and potentially hp lv was a thinner viscosity than dexiii. Obviously will need to do some digging and confirm. I would be extremely careful to not go thinner than oe.

I use rp synromesh and remember it being higher viscosity @ operating temp than oe when I last looked. I noticed little to no trade off in cold weather performance.

There are records of people using rp redline and amsoil back in the t56. Over 20 years of testing. I’m not sure I would risk being a geinea pig at this point.

I’ve only tried Mobil 1 dex 3 and rp. I did not like how notchy the M1 was and drained it

Thanks for the insight. Let us know if you find anything on the viscosity.

Mobil 1 dexron 3 (also almost every brand dex3 I found is 7.1-7.5)
kinematic viscosity @ 100*c(hot) 7.4
@ 40*c 36.3
Density @ 15.6c g/ml .846

Mobil 1 hp lv bottom (and yes seems similar to dex6)
kinematic viscosity @ 100*c(hot) 5.7
@ 40*c 27
Density @ 15.6c g/ml .835

I also think Amsoil is pretty nice. Worked well on the track as well.

You guys remember on the C5's how GM said it was "lifetime" fluid?

Transmission was sealed

Should I be changing the 1LE M6 fluid after break in around 1500 miles ? Or if not, how long can I wait?

If you're not taking your car to the track just follow the manual, I wouldn't worry about it for a while. Track use I believe is 12 or 24 hours of track time.
