Clunk noise after startup V6 A10 LT
So been trying to find an answer to this clunking noise I have after a few seconds of a cold engine startup. Have a LT V6 and A10 trans, 2020 Camaro. Only does it on a cold startup and runs fine for the rest of the day with out clunking. Will only do it after it’s been sitting for like overnight.
Car runs great and has no others issues. Been wanting to take it in to service but holding off because of my low immune system and out of control Covid BS here in AZ. Definitely an annoying little hiccup with the clunk. Car is in park and does not need to be moved to get the clunk. 2-3 seconds right after engine starts....weird. Car has always done it since I purchased it with 1350 smiles on it. Currently I’m at 2200 smiles. Few times it has started cold with no clunk, but most of the time I get the clunk on a cold start. Without actually hearing it it's obviously hard to say. It only does it in park, and only on a cold start? Doesn't do it in any other scenario?

Maybe a problem with the starter. I say that because of how you describe the issue. Right after a cold start up and not in gear yet. I believe your starter is not disengaging properly. That is your "clunk." Maybe shimmed incorrectly or just sticking. Call dealer and explain. Leave it overnight so they can cold start it and hear the issue.

No one knows everything. I would park the car on flat ground, command start it and film the noise you hear and watch for movement. Consider starting a new post in the "general forum" and see if you can get other a10's to do the same. Compare results, If you cant come to a conclusion at least you can show the service adviser your video. |

Update: The clunk noise on cold start up came back. I will provide an update when I determine the source of noise.
Previous Post: I had the same clunk noise on a 2022 V6 and I resolved the problem after replacing the oil filter from an ACDelco UPF63R to a Wix WL10255XP. The Wix in my opinion has less flow resistance and my oil pressure dropped 10 lbs at idle and increases to normal pressure when driving. This Wix filter media is synthetic and filters to 20 micron not 30 micron. I spoke with my Dealership about the solution and it will not affect my warranty. Hey Jojo, I have a brand new 2023 RS V6 A10 with only 395 miles on it and it does exactly the same thing. A second or two after I cold start the car, I get a single clunk. After that it's fine and it won't do it again until the car completely cools down. Other than that, the car runs perfect. If you find out anything, please let me know. I will do the same. Thanks.

Same issue on 2024 V6 brand new. Only on cold start. After that it is fine until the next cold start. Really feels like something can break. Moves the car slightly.

It's entirely possible that it's the electronic park brake releasing, and you're hearing the pads reach the end of their travel. But based on the description of the event, it's still likely residual pressure in the transmission circuit as previously mentioned.
The V8s have traditional cable actuated parking brakes so they would not have the same noise as the 4 & 6 cylinder cars, which is porbably why this thread hasn't gotten many looks: mostly V8 owners around here... |
