I have a 2017 SS and at first the T87A was not tunable. Honestly, it sucked not being able to tune the trans, even with just mild bolt-ons. With some serious mods like a cam, then I think that it would really suck. What I am saying is, for your cam build, I would suggest avoiding the 2020, and instead look for either a leftover '19 or a used car as the basis of the project.

As a "never auto" guy in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, I recall that the reason for manuals was that they were quicker. Autos were slow and stupid.

Now autos are quicker and, if you think you're smarter, you can still use paddles to make the quicker than manual shifts. Long live autos.

This isn't a manual vs auto debate. The OP wants to know if you regret buying a 2020+ with the A10 since it's not tuneable. That being said the stock A10 tune is pretty decent. The A8 stock tune sucked. However once the A8 is tuned it is pretty damn good. Unfortunately not having the ability to tune the A10 will hinder the ability to get the full gains from some certain mods(Converters, Camshafts, Centri superchargers). Basically anything that will require raising shift points and converter lock/unlock points.

Absolutely not!! I work at a dealership in sales and I'll tell you the new A10 is no joke! It feels soooooo much faster than my 2017 SS M6! All the people I take for a ride that think a manual transmission is the coolest have a change of heart. If it was 1991 and you were buying a new 5.0 Mustang, the manual is where it's at. 4th gen F body is closer on auto/manual debate depending on drivers. My personal opinion,,,,,,, in 2020 technology, you can NOT shift as fast as the A10. Game changer. And the best thing, according to the My Chevrolet app, I got 29 mpg taking it easy on my 18 mile drive to work!!

I can't imagine anyone buying the A10 in an SS or LT1 having any regrets. The A10 is such an animal, the last thought that pops into my head is modding the car for power. IMO if you need faster than the A10 in SS or LT1 guise, you'll never be satisfied and your wallet will never be heavy.

The manuals hold their value better. And depending where you live you could easily sell it in under a week with little effort.

All the reasons you mentioned to me are not reasons to buy automatic. Because your going to sell the car. Because you'll get more resell value. So you bought the car for you or the next guy?

Manual all day.

You don't really think anyone would spend $45k + on a car and then turn around and say they regret it do you? If they had the Hyper Metallic Blue on a 2020 A10, I would have upgraded. I took the 2020 for a test drive, but then bought the 16 because of the color.

Anyone buying a brand new LT1 most likely made this purchase after having Done all their research and picked this car specifically for their own personal needs / wants. It’s still 2020 so they probably haven’t had it long enough to regret it.

As far as the manual vs. automatic transmission selection. There are pros’ and cons for each and as such, this is another personal selection choice with no right or wrong. Personally, I purchased exactly (1) automatic transmission sports ‘sedan (Cadillac CTS-V) and didn’t care for it because I really missed the manual transmission. I tried to enjoy the automatic, but it didn’t give me the involvement in driving experience I wanted in my fun cars. Easily sold the car and went back to a Manual transmission in my ‘toy’ car. My daily is a truck with automatic transmission and that works perfectly for me. To each their own.

I only made two comments but you missed or ignored the "faster" part.

I originally called the dealer about a stick and he said resale would be much more difficult

Maybe contact a tuner & tell them your plans & if tuning ability will be needed.

That being said, when I found out 20’s were locked I focused on ‘19’s.

The 2019 has the A10 option as well. Love mine!
