Power Stop Brakes

I'm going to show some ignorance here but please bear with me.

I'm sick of the brake dust on my wheels and the work it takes to keep them clean. My summers are in for ceramic coating but I figured adding some Power Stop Brakes would help all the more.

What I've read up on them, they're not great for tracking but fine for dailying which is what I do with the car.

So I ordered some pads off of Amazon only to see someone posting on Facebook that you can't go with just pads alone and that you need to either get the rotors too or at least have the rotors resurfaced.

Is it true that you can't simply drop in new pads and either need to resurface the rotors or swap out to new rotors?

No you don't HAVE to have the rotors also. I had PS Ceramic brakes on 2 of my previous cars and they were fine. In fact on my son's 2000 Camaro years ago they were a ton better than the stock in stopping power. My SS has the Brembos, I went with Ceramic but don't remember the brand, they are also fine.

If the car shimmies when you brake or there are grooves in the rotor surface, they will need to be resurfaced/replaced. Mine were fine, I didn't resurface, that was about a year ago and ~ 6K miles. No Issues any my car currently has 40K miles.

just do a light coat of sandpaper on your rotors before you drive it after you swap the pads out its super easy

I didn't even sandpaper or otherwise prep my 1LE/Brembo rotors, dropped in the Z26 and followed the break-in procedure...multiple hard braking 60-10 runs and Ive been good to go ever since. Great pads, 1000% less dusting.

It's good practice to swap rotors too if they have significant grooving from your old pads, but if they are smooth and little miles then should be ok.

use a name brand brake cleaner, YES it matters!! scuff the rotors with 800 grit and you will be good to go. I wouldn't cut the rotors, they are thin already and once you overheat them you will start to get shimmy...:(
I DD my powerstops without issues. just know, you will lose the initial bite of the stock pads but they stop pretty good. 95% dust improvement.

I had the Powerstop Z26 on my 1LE for 4 months and just switched back to the factory Brembos 2 weeks ago. The Z26s didn't have near the same stopping ability and they squealed no matter what.

This.

I've gotten to the point where I don't even try bedding the brakes with multiple hard near stops when I do a brake job. I just go out and drive it for about 20 or so minutes making sure I use the brakes a decent amount during that drive. Never had an issue when doing this, but I lost about all my petal pressure one time trying to bed the brakes on my L by doing a bunch of hard near stops from 60+ MPH.

Resurrecting this from the dead.

I need new Brake Pads. I hate all the dusting my stockers do, its a total PITA. But I don't want to lose 'too' much braking power. I eventually intend to track the car as well. Are the Power Stops for me? If not, are there any other pads you would recommend? Or would I need to swap to a larger caliper?

Powerstops would be ok for dust reduction and street use, but keep your OE pads around and re-burnish them for use on the track. No such thing as a low-dust track pad, unfortunately.

I put them on my 2020 2SS at 400 miles because of the horrendous brake dust... Helped a huge amount!
