It'll be $200k+, $250k for the first 1000 units, and by the time Tesla actually gets around to start building it, GM or some other automaker will probably have had something comparable or better in full production for years.

But hey, you can help Tesla start building the Model 3 backlog by putting down a $50k deposit for the new Roadster...

There is no reason to believe that the Mustang and Camaro nameplate can't live on in an electric variant. Of course maybe by the time we get to the point where absolutely nothing is gas any longer, and everything is electric, most people will probably be riding around in self driving cars, and to go along with that, most people won't even own a car any longer, and the industry itself will be completely different.

But until we get there, Camaro can live on.

No Way.. It's way out of my price range. I have a hard enough time paying for the Camaro.

Electric seems to be the way things are going though, so GM needs to get moving. If they don't have something decent ready by the time I pay mine off though, I will probably go with a Tesla Model 3 (they should be caught up by then) or something similar.

Just thought I'd add this to the discussion. Chevrolet and Tesla are not the only companies that might be exploring the idea of electric sports cars. Keep in mind that in addition to Lamborghini, Volkswagen also owns and controls Porsche, Bentley, and Audi. If they spend money to develop electrification for Lamborghini, expect it to spread to the other brands, just as today the Audi R8 shares powertrains with the Lamborghini Gallardo.

In a related note...VW said something last week about spending $40B on electric vehicle development between now and 2023. That's billions with a B. They can buy several current car companies for less than that. They have stated that EVERY vehicle in EVERY one of their 11 brands will have some degree of electric powertrain content, ranging from mild hybrid to full electric.

Where you see ".....", it means I clipped out some info that isn't important to this discussion.

Lamborghini presents electric super sports car design concept, developed in collaboration with MIT labs
7 November 2017
Automobili Lamborghini, a member of the Volkswagen Group, unveiled its new design concept for a future Lamborghini electric super sports car: the “Lamborghini of the Terzo Millennio”, developed in collaboration with two MIT laboratories. The technological goal of the project is to enable Lamborghini to address the future of the super sports car in five different dimensions: energy storage systems; innovative materials; propulsion system; visionary design; and emotion.
......

Collaborating with MIT for our R&D department is an exceptional opportunity to do what Lamborghini has always been very good at: rewriting the rules on super sports cars. Now we are presenting an exciting and progressive concept car. We are inspired by embracing what is impossible today to craft the realities of tomorrow: Lamborghini must always create the dreams of the next generation.
—Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini

......

Propulsion system. Each wheel incorporates an integrated electric motor, perpetuating the commitment to four-wheel drive and in the meantime harvesting the opportunities provided by electric motors: high torque, reversibility, and the possibility of moving energy by wire. The Terzo Millennio therefore also embodies the first steps for Lamborghini to go in the direction of creating a “Lamborghini Electric”.
......

Fundamental to a Lamborghini hypercar of the future is sustaining the emotion of driving a Lamborghini, and an immersive driver experience. The responsiveness of the electric motors, the four-wheel torque control and the dynamic body control system will enhance the driver’s experience. Finally, the consequent aerodynamics and innovative lightweight approach will result in a new dimension of longitudinal as well as lateral dynamics.
