Camaro V8 to V6 experience
I was the proud owner of an amazing driving '16 Camaro SS2 with a 6MT which I had to let go at the beginning of the dam pandemia. Now I'm looking back at going back into a 6th gen Camaro, but now there are two factors to consider: the crazy high used car price market and the also crazy gas cost that we are facing. I wounder if a 6th gen Camaro V6 6MT would bring back a similar driving experience of my prior SS. Has anyone experienced driving both cars?

I have, although the other way around, I first had a V6 that I traded for a V8, which kind of already tells you what I think.
You will probably hear that the V6 is almost as good and you can't really use a V8's power for the most part, but the truth is there is no comparison. If you buy the Camaro for looks, you'll be okay with the V6, otherwise it will feel like an above average normal car and you'll live with regret.

Would be a tough transition, unless maybe an LT 1LE trim. I could get some use out of that in the mountains.

That’s a tough one… if it were me, I’d save extra $ now and wait for these crazy car prices to drop. It’s going to happen, and may do so very quickly (wish I had a crystal ball) Personally, I’m hoping the panic of people trading in their big V8’s, combined with increased manufacturing, higher interest rates, falling stock prices (fear) -will create a glut of both used and new cars. That’s what we need, the market is out of whack…

If there is any chance you will be sitting around regretting not having that V8 then I'd wait. I've had mostly small block cars my entire adult life until I went out in 2013 and bought a new Charger SXT Plus Rallye. It had every option but had a 3.6. It was a great car and fun to drive but I spent 8 years throwing every bolt on I could find at it plus every hot rod trick I could think of just to squeeze everything out of it. In the end it was just not the same and I knew I needed something with an 8.

I had a V6 RS as a loaner for a couple of weeks. I believe it was a 2017. I was impressed with the motor, probably one of the nicest V6s I've driven.
Having said that, I would never consider trading my V8 in for a V6. |

Everyone's situation is different. After going from a 1989 Camaro RS V6, every Camaro I ever owned again including my current 2022 ZL1 was a V8 in one trim level or another. Sure the V6 model will cost less and gas will be less expensive, but you have to be the one to make the decision.
I am not into all the tech and "extra's" (who really needs 24 colors of light to choose from). If you can swing it, at a minimum I would aim for a LT1 OR 1SS to at least get the V8. Just go with your gut so you have no regrets. |

I test drove a 2.0T and a V-6 before I bought my LT-1. My 1992 and 2010 Camaros both were V8s. I just couldn’t be in a Camaro without the rumble and the power, it didn’t feel right to me. But with gas prices the way they are, regular is much cheaper than 93, but I don't think I would change my mind since it’s not a daily driver.

I think once you go V8 you can’t really go back. Because while the V6 will be a nice car you will certainly miss the V8 rumble and power. If you are not particular about the trim level and you are trying to keep it cheap as possible get an LT1 or if you can afford the wait order one to ensure you are paying MSRP, no markups and no unreasonable used car prices.

I've put 32k on my v6.I drove a lt1 20miles. I like the 6 better.I didn't like the long gearing of the 8. Top of 2nd 80 mph vs top of 3rd 90.I like the sound of the 6 better.I have to have a manual transmission. You have to drive both and make a choice.

As far as sound, you are the only person I have ever heard say the 6 sounds better than the 8, I think you are just reaching on that one. The v8 sounds glorious. |
