Safe to keep engine cover off?

Fellow V6ers,

I was changing my spark plugs recently. Apart from snapping an intake manifold bolt (part number 11547493, for anybody wondering), I am keeping the engine cover and cloth padding off until I get the replacement bolt.
However, I like the look of the "naked" engine more than if it had an engine cover.

Question: is it safe to keep the plastic engine cover off in a long run?

I liked it too. Thought about it. Some people say yes. Some people say it's there for a reason. For me, I drive 100 plus miles a day, with my morning commute in the Monterey morning mist. I like to think the engine cover keeps the water off some critical electrical components. Also, if you look at the manifold it looks like water can get caught on top in the screw holes and grooves. Long story short I had a Mercedes with a sunroof. On days it rained water would get trapped in the corner. Over time it rusted away and water would seep in the car. $4,000 to fix. For that reason alone I refuse to get cars with sunroofs. Just my two cents

I think it would help in warm temps. The cover might keep engine cleaner, I don't think the insulation on top of engine is worth anything

It also keeps the engine noises down in addition to what others have said. Perfectly fine removed if you decide to keep it off.

I think removing the insulation peace on top of engine, engine cover and hood liner could only help performance.I have not removed any of this on my v6 Camaro but I did on my focus st and I believe it helped.

I took mine off, like to be able to see the engine. Going to leave the insulation on the intake, might help warm up better on a cold day and keep hood heat off on a smoking hot day.
