Goodyear Eagle SC3 vs Michelin PS4S. Fight!!!

Alright guys its that time again, time for new tires. I have been running Firestones Indy 500 tire on track for some years now and I can literally melt them in a couple laps now so its time to upgrade.

I know you top dog ZL1 guys come equipped with the SC3 and that many of you switch over to the PS4S. These are the two tires I a debating buying so naturally I come to you for advice. I have some questions. I will try to be succinct.

How much life do you get out of an SC3 or PS4S?
How much faster is the SC3 over the PS4S on track?
How fast does the PS4S grease up on a hot track day?
How rough is the street ride on the SC3?
How much better does the car ride on PS4S vs the SC3?

I am looking for an improved track experience but 90% of the miles on my track car take place on the street and don't really want to destroy my nice, comfortable ride by slapping on some gumballs. Yes, I seek that perfect balance of track capable and street friendly. Its elusive but I think with enough research I can find a happy medium for me personally.

Any other feedback will be greatly appreciated
PS: I know buying a separate set of track wheels is ideal but I do not have space for them at the moment as I live in Chicago and have a tiny garage and limited storage capacity.

The extra set is the only way to get both. So you have to pick. Do you want a street tire or a track tire?

Definitely agree an extra set is the way to go, I personally use SC3 on the street and SC3R on the track.

The SC3R is the most dangerous tire I've ever driven on the street even in dry conditions. And it was worn out after 2000 miles.

The 4S is the best high performance tire for our cars when you consider all conditions and surfaces. It's quite and great on the street and road course, wet and dry. It's just OK at the strip. It would take several pages here to list all of the major racing championships/events it has won internationally in many racing jurisdictions. My current set has 9k on them and look like they might go to 15k.

There are extensive threads here on both tires.

On track, no comparison, the SC3 is hands down better.

On the street, no comparison, the 4S is hands down better.

Decide which is more important for you.

4S excellent street tire for our power levels.

4S even autox, it overheats FAST. Very soft sidewall - which makes for nice steet tire.

SC3 and SC3R are track tires... barely OK for street.

Can we add the Nitto R2 to this for comparison sakes? I pretty much knew all of the above about each tires. But I’m currently looking at 2 months out on the PS4S in the rear for street ability, so I’m looking at other highly reviewed options

If I had to pick a tire to do it all, it would be the PS4S. I had a set on my Mustang GT and after ~20k miles and 6 track days there was still a safe amount of tread left. It's missing ~3s of lap time on a 1:20 lap compared to the SC3s though I wasn't trying to set TT class records or anything. They can get a little greasy on hot days at the track, but nothing scary or unpredictable.

Now that I'm in the Camaro world I've switched to running 2 sets of wheels - 1 with the SC3s on them and another with some Conti all seasons.

You need to clarify the exact tire. You're always adding comparisons of things the original posters don't ask about. You said SC3 only last 2000 miles and are very dangerous on the street. However, you have a ZLE and you are clearly referring to the SC3R tires, which are R compound track tires, which the OP DID NOT ask about. Get a clue and answer the questions answered, don't always drag it back to your experience with your exact car like you do in every possible thread.

What would you say is the difference in ride quality between the two?
Does the SC3 grip as well as the PS4S at temperatures around 40-50?

If you live in the southwest, SC3 absolutely. Anywhere else - I can see where the P4S is a better choice.

It'll grip better. As long as you can get the tire temp up to around 200F and keep it there. Good luck!

Have you run the SC3 on the street? How harsh is it? I live in Chicago and our roads are a joke so it does make a quite a difference. A while back I had a car with some federal 240TW tires on it and it was honestly painful to drive it on the street in the city. Every pothole made me feel like I was going to break part of my suspension.
