car turns over for very long then starts
Hi all, pretty new here, I have a 2010 ss manual. I dont daily the car, probably drive it every two weeks. It has about 66k miles on it.
It worked fine until recently, it wont start until i keep pumping the gas and it would turn over for like 30 seconds, i would hear it attempt to start then die. I would have to do this process for about 2-3 times then it finally starts. Once its started it runs and doesnt die on me until I turn it off and if I try to start it right after, same process, even when fully warmed up. Im not getting any check lights. I thought the pump died, but if it did, wont it not start at all? Any pointers as to where I should start checking? Changed, plugs and wires last year. Thanks for the help! |

First off on these injected engines, I was told that pumping the gas to get it to start doesn't do anything like the old carbed engines did that had accelerator pumps on them. You get fuel fed by the pump when you turn the key on, then you have fuel pressure to the injectors. I would check your fuel pressure and see what's there, possibility your pump is getting ready to take a crap, or you have some clogged injectors that need attention. Good luck sir..

Pumping the gas won't help the matter and may be causing it to start more slowly. I think our fuel systems have a check valve that may be failing allowing the fuel to drain out of the lines while setting.
