Rotofab intake & Soler 91mm tb w/ stock tune driviablity not the greatest
Assuming as many would already know, unfortunately it seems I'd needs a tune. Its a shame how GM tuning setup it by it make one require a tune even for simple bolts the increase air flow. Recently starting out with just a Soler 91mm tb and then noticed a flat spot stumble while wot at around 4k. Hit up Mike at Soler to ask him and he was honest and suggested it most likely would require a tune to tune out the extra air flow. While I know it needs a tune today added a rotofab intake and sadly it exacerbates the stumble/not smooth throttle pull condition. Curious if tuning really is worth it or just remove parts and enjoy with what is left on the warranty. If i tune will i really see a different in power with just tuning and these small bolt ons?

I would ditch the Solar Throttle body and just keep the Roto-Fab intake. I’ve had PTBs on three different vehicles, and on all three I ended going back to the stock TB because of issues with drivability.

I’d keep your warranty and the rotofab, sell the Soler. Those are not enough mods to make it worth ditching your warranty. The benefit of a tune at this level will be mostly drivability as opposed to significant power increases.

I tried Ported TBs and while initially I thought they were great I ended up with check engine lights in every case.......I finally went back to a stock TB, green filter and a Soler Performance Throttle Controller and the car is an absolute blast to drive! Way better than stock. Absolutely perfect throttle performance at every rpm and the controller is the most amazing piece of tech you can get for $100.......absolutely changes the character of the car, which you totally control. I was not a believer in Throttle Controllers, thought they were just fake news, but holy lord is it awesome.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, crazy to see everyone saying no to port tb's and how they cause issues. From what I've read they should be label as "will require a tune for driveablity and for pick people like myself that can noticed things."
Today I've done one base tune with a passed tuner I used on my c7 z06. Already noticed a better difference in over all feel and drive-ability and there is more tuning to go. After hearing all of this I almost want to put the stock tb back and and finishing tuning lol. |

All ported TBs aren't an issue but seems the Solar is the problem. Since I had a C7 and saw many of the same issues on the Corvette Forum. Not sure what is going on with their electronics. I've had several Lt1's TBs that were ported and also a Lt5 that was ported and before tuning never had an issue with setting a check engine light.

From What I've read, the Tony Mamo TB's were reliable, not much mention of CEL's at all.

Interesting discussion. I’ve used the Soler ported oem throttle body and Rotofab CAI on my car since just after I bought the car, both without a tune and later with a tune. I’ve never had any issues at all with it and certainly never have any CELs. As with any throttle body and CAI installs you have to be careful with the MAF sensor when doing the install. Error on the install has caused most of the issues that I’ve read about.

First off I'll say I'm no expert and no tuner but I'll give you my experience with Ported TB's on my 2021 ZL1. I'm the original owner I know that don't matter but you know, I know what's been done to my car.
Since y'all are doing names here, I will do them as well. I tried 3 Ported TB's with my car. I tried Mamo V2, Soler Ported 87mm (91mm effective) and Katech 87mm stock ported TB. I'll start with the bad and then give you the good. All of these Ported TB's were tried with and without my Roto Fab Standard CAI (Dry Filter). Starting with the bad, my car is 2021 ZL1 with M6 tranny. My car did not like any Ported TB as mention above with and without the Roto Fab CAI. Yes I did a relearn everytime and drove it a good bit of miles everytime. My car in the off idle and lower rpms would fall on it's face out the hole. At WOT with all of them it did great. It did go into limp mode with one of the brands a couple of times but it don't matter because between the 3 different ones my car didn't like them. The good is what you find out about customer service: Tony Mamo worked with me and we tried 3 different ported TB's. In the end he refunded me and paid for the shipping back to him. Great Customer service Soler, Mike at Soler worked with me also and we tried 2 different ported TB's. As a previous customer of Soler Mike give me small perks and in the end he refunded me and paid for shipping back to him. Great Customer service Katech was the last one I tried but since the others didn't work and I got it used it was no point in contacting Katech or worrying about it just sold it for what I paid for it used which was a great price. In the end my car doesn't like any ported TB's an it's not those guys fault. They had great customer service which is what the end user want. My girlfriend 2019 2SS has a Soler ported TB and we haven't had any issues with it for 2 plus years. Some cars don't like the Ported TB might be more worse for boosted setups than N/A setups. Sorry for the long post. |

on second revision with my tuner, driveability is night and day difference. Seriously they need a tune to smooth stuff out guys. Really can't blame these TB ported company's guys, its GM super *** sensitive system. But what they should say is it most likely will require a tune to smooth out driveability and throttle feel. IMHO the guys that don't get a cel and don't noticed the driveability changes are the guys that just aren't picky.
Regarding the soler performance throttle controller. My take on it is not as others. I've found it to soften or remove the end postion of the lowest point of the throttle peddle, which I didn't like. It did increase the tip in peddle sensitivity which is nice but after having a tune, is feel there is no need for it. Currently running a tune with out the tc any more, will mess around with it again as time goes on. I did like comfort 1 prior. Last edited by brad65ford; 02-20-2022 at 10:36 AM. |

I'm not sure where they buy them but the main thing I've heard of is getting them to idle. I've had 2 Katech 91s, a stock Lt5 and a Ported Lt5. No idle or throttle issues with either. I have not had a Solar so can't say for sure but just what I've read on the 2 forums.
